Summon The Shadows
"When in the springtime of the year
When the trees are crowned with leaves
When the ash and oak, and the birch and yew
Are dressed in ribbons fair.
When owls call the breathless moon
in the blue veil of the night
When shadows of the trees appear
amidst the lantern('s) light.
We've been rambling all the night
and sometime of this day
Now returning back again
we bring a garland gay.
Who will go down to those shady groves
and summon the shadows there
And tie a ribbon on those sheltering arms
in the springtime of the year.
The sounds of birds seem to fill the wood
and when the fiddler plays
All their voices can be heard
long past their woodland days.
We've been rambling all the night
and sometime of this day
Now returning back again
we bring a garland gay.
And so they linked their hands and danced
'round in circles and in rows
And so the journey of the night descends
when all the shades are gone.
A garland gay we bring you here
And at your door we stand
Here's a sprout, well budded out
The work of our Lord's hand.
We've been rambling all the night
and sometime of this day
Now returning back again
we bring a garland gay."
-The Mummer's Dance by Loreena McKennitMoonlit groves of Silver Birch play tricks on the eyes of men who are reluctant dreamers. The leaves and even the smooth bark reflect the silver strands of the Moon's watching, and the whole thicket glows white as new-fallen snow. Someone who has not forgotten the days when Man and Tree danced together to welcome the seasons has left pale green ribbons dangling in the branches...not that the trees would mind. Trees are ever mindful of their own beauty though they still manage to give off a fair bit of modesty in their poise. The wind whistles through the paper-thin leaves and the sharp blades of grass, and a nymph-like song rises and swirls 'round the silver trunks. Is that laughter? Is that the shrill call of a violin? Is that the flutter of a flute? Can't be!
...and those shadows...they're just the clever puppets of the ribbons twisting in the limbs, aren't they? Ah, but for a moment it looked like a dance, didn't it?...
Collaboration with luthiennightwolf we started on while she was here a few days ago. She drew the figures and inked them, and I did the background and colored it! Pretty PRETTY!
Done with ink, brush pen, gel pen, and copic markers on bristol board.
Wielder belongs to me. Luthien belongs to herself.

Indeed you should. I really like how this fusion of artstyles turned out.
One can spot the different ways you two use to draw here. When I first saw this piece I immediately recognized Wielder's colouring but there was something about the rest of the picture that wasn't quite Wieldery. Then I finally scrolled down to see that it was a collaboration, which explained everything.

Yeah I'm honestly surprised by how many of my watchers aren't realizing that this is a collab though. I color completly differently and they're going "wow Luth thats different but awesome" and I'm like...."ahem" *points to description* lol I do love how our styles blend though, sometimes two artists won't work together that way, but thats definately not the case here. :)
Being part Irish myself, I absolutely love this pic (not like, LOVE). The second I saw the title, that song popped into my head. That's my favorite song by her ~is a huge Celtic fan~, and this image does it justice. Indeed, if Loreena McKennit was a furry, I daresay she'd use this for the cover art for her 'The Mummer's Dance' single. Very beautiful work, wonderfully pretty background, and your coloring matches the picture perfectly.
On a side note, and this may sound peculiar and random, but are you the same Wielder that's friends with Rahnee Ranshanka? If not, feel free to ignore my random comment, and just focus on the flattering praise. x3
