Something I've been working on for a few months, that I have finally decided is done... this is a surprise gift for my dear friend, Amoux (whose own lovely work can be found at
wolphyn - she is far too modest and hasn't uploaded in a long time, but words of encouragement probably would not hurt to get her to start doing so again! ;3).
This gift is my way of saying "thanks" to her, for she LITERALLY saved my shit: one day about two years ago, we were hanging out, and I casually mentioned I had never made any backups of my work or computer. She stared at me in wide-eyed shock for a minute or two, and then told me, "we're going to Fry's RIGHT NOW, and we're going to get you a backup drive. Don't worry about the money, I will buy it for you and you can pay me back later."
So we went, and I got my first ever shiny new backup drive, and backed up all my shit that same day. It was a good feeling and all, but I wasn't TOO concerned: in all my years of owning computers, I had yet to ever have a single hard drive fail. Naively, I had assumed that my luck would not change.
Barely a couple of months later, and what happens? The internal drive on my 2006 iMac starts making the Horrible Clicking Noise. Aka, I am kicking the bucket now, thx bye. But thanks to Amoux's foresight, I had every last little thing safe and sound on that backup drive. 10+ years worth of my digital work (and life), perhaps even more, would have been gone forever if not for her.
I could not figure out a way to say thank you enough with words, so instead I rendered her character, an eclectic gryphon mix of a Philippine monkey-eating eagle and a dhole (asiatic wild dog), as close to how I envision her in my head as I could.
Thanks again, Amoux, for literally saving my shit, and also for just being an awesome friend all these years. <3

Yeah, I need to get a backup as well.. But honestly, a tech can usually get most data off of a hard drive, even if it's not functioning properly. But especially with your work, better safe than sorry! From personal experience, I know it's heartbreaking to have your artwork destroyed. Great job on those feathers and the beak!
My, such fine details. I really am amazed with how much passion an artist can pour into a submission because clearly this is proof of that. Loving the texture, the overall art style, and the close up to distinguish the feathers on the neck to the facial area. Well done indeed
