Oh,look mummy! Can I pet the smiling kitty?
No dear, The kitty's psychotic. Maybe later if he's feeling better.
(***This is a repost of last nights upload. Better rez, color and overall sharpness. It's still a photo but I played with the camera settings. First version is in scraps.****)
8.5 x 11 color pencil and a smidge of copic to help save it. Grrrr!!
This piece was salvaged from a disaster! I thought it was dead but a little copic marker which I never used before helped save it a little. The smallest regular piece i've done in years though he is rather huge was the finest detailing I have ever done and heavily layered and somewhat overworked in spots.
I was out of fixative and I ordered my regular brand but bought workable as well final non-workable. I used the workable like I thought I always used (It was in the same color can as always you see) and immediately I saw something was wrong. The color seemed to be fading and or falling off. That was what was happening and I was sick.
I compared the new cans with an old can The old can was the final non workable type but the color of the label had changed. I finally felt well enough to see if anything could be salvaged. I was able to re-detail some but just couldn't get the fine lines again. The cybernetic arm really got hammered along with some of the fur detailing. I decided to try some copics and that saved it enough to post. I had an extended bio to go with this guy that turned into a short story that I was going to post with him. May be later now.
I guess he turned out OK but it's not the same. I'm totally bummed!
Posted him on FA last night. It wasn't a good photo (no scanner) and not adjusted. This shot is a bit better and closer to RL.
The cybernetics are only temporary to make him functional till new organic replacements can be grown. That is a lengthy process. If he was patient for a few more hours, a synthetic fur would have been covering the arm and be almost unnoticeable. But what damaged him did worse to his mate and she died cradled in his good arm.
Mated tigran are also empathically bonded and when a mate dies, the survivor will sometimes become catatonic or in his case, psychotic, bent solely on finding who did this and exacting vengeance. A tunnel vision with only death at the end. Nothing else matters and he didn't care what he looked like. He bailed from the AutoDoc as soon as he was functional in order to carry out his last task. And all kinds of fun little weapons can be tucked in the recesses of that arm ;)
This is the main character from a short love story I'm writing.

I should have taken a picture of it before I started fixing it. It was so weird looking. a lot of the stripping had flaked to the white paper in spots. areas with the most color layers were hit hardest. I felt sick to my stomach for hours. I finally started surgery Sunday afternoon. Finally just called it quits.
I got a bad can of fixative once that deposited a nice streak of white foam across the center of a finished piece. Fortunately I had scanned it first before spraying. This was not my common practice at the time but it has been ever since. Still have the picture years later but have not figured a way to clean it safely.
Gosh, the detailing of the fur, the beautifully imaginative cybernetic arm! Even without reading the story, you really get a sense of character to this figure. That fierce expression, the necklace he's holding, it gives off the kind of personality and bit of story like you relayed in your description.
