I've tried that as well. IMO, it doesn't look so good when viewed with this method. Cross-eyed is good for images with many planes and more depth (like photos or complex drawings with full background), not just a single object or character like in this one.
By the way, I'm having a serious brainfuck now, because your style of drawing is so similar to
