I had these all laid out in the living room, and I decided I needed to do a digital collage somewhere in my files, so I had them all put together somewhere, in case I ever needed to show them online. This is a much smaller version of the file, obviously.
These were the original graphite/ink pages I worked on for my portion of the 24/24 comic challenge I just took part in with
Myenia. Each page took anywhere from 45-75 minutes, depending on the complexity, and let me tell you, it was nerve-wracking. I've done deadline work before, but this was NUTS.
For anyone who'd like to attempt the challenge in future years, here's a few tips:
- Have everything you're gonna need to eat and drink in a cooler, right at your feet. I know getting up to go to the fridge seems like it wouldn't take much time, but trust me, every minute counts. To give you a good idea, I completed the last page for this challenge with four minutes to spare.
- Make sure you're comfortable, wherever you've settled down to work. This includes things like ensuring the temperature is comfortable for you. Remember that as you get tired, you're likely to get warm. Sit near a window for fresh air. I'd even suggest a scented candle. . . I had one lit beside me for the entire time, and the fact that my workspace smelled nice actually made me feel a lot more comfortable.
- Sleep as long as you can the night before, and try to do your start time an hour or two after you wake up, so you're really fresh.
- Eat plenty of complex proteins the day before, and don't forget to add a few simple proteins to your diet the day of. Complex proteins break down slowly, and give you long-lasting energy. Things like caffeine, sweets and carbohydrates will give you a sudden boost of energy when you need it, but remember, you will crash a few hours after eating them, even if you keep piling them on. My diet before and after the challenge consisted of:
Night Before - Beef, Rice with Edamame (rice AND beans is a complete protein, remember!)
Day of - Orange Juice (vitamin C to keep healthy!), Carrots with Hummus, Protein bars, Dr. Pepper and Neuro, and near the tail end, a good ol' McD's sausage/egg breakfast sandwich on a biscuit, for a quick burst of energy, and more orange juice before I went to sleep
- Stretch your hands in between pages. I did about a minute of stretching in between each page, and MAN did it make a difference! I've done deadline work before, so I've had days like this where I utterly destroyed my hands, but even though they hurt while I was working, today they're absolutely fine. Gotta be the stretching.
- Find ways to stay positive! If you live with a mate or friend, inform them you need their moral support. It certainly helped to have my mate on hand the whole while. I even made a spot for my stuffed whale shark plushie, so he could be my little mascot, and I made sure there was room on the couch for my dog, so I'd have company. Keeping your spirits up throughout something like this is REALLY important, you are going to get tired, get stressed out, and want to give up, having encouragement of some kind really helps!
Anyway, what a ride! I highly encourage all artists to at least give it a try, just for the experience. Also because I'd love to read your comics ;)

Then that's all you needed to say, that it was good. No need to criticize the length.
What you said puts off that you think that Rukis did not do enough to please you in a negative manner. It would have, however, been completely different if you say, wished there would be more in the future. A positive statement without negative undertones.
That's what I got from your comment. Whether you meant it like so is a completely different thing, though. :)

"That, or you think too little."
That statement agrees that your assessment of me could be true, or that the opposite in regards to yourself could be true. Neutrality.
I'm not quite sure how my argument failed through that. Your argument seems very counter-intuitive, how you drew your conclusion doesn't make sense.

Length of rubber tubing (also known as Truckies Friend) for those annoying relief breaks.
I know it sounds funny but I have a bottle in my workshop for that purpose. Nothing more annoying that getting down to the workshop (change of temperature etc) settling down and then needing to take 'a leak'. Being diabetic does not help much either.
So this way I can continue to work without racing back to the house etc..

It amazes me how easy it is for you to do this, It take me forever to just get a plot that suits my interest.
But just wondering did you have an idea of what the story was going to be about before you started or did you just go with it as you went? Cause this is a beautiful story. :)
YOUR AMAZING! :D

The real question everyone will want to know is that will there be more of them in the future? at least a yiff sence being that there is a hint of some kind of love between cinder and ember.
Also will the comic in its entirety be touched up to a final look or left as is?
Im not slamming or downing the talent or anything about this comic at all and i was really not paying attention to the fact that there was a 24hr art spree going on till at least the 4th or 5th page as i rarely get on anymore. I am just wondering about the above questions of detail and character progression cause i can feel the story in this like i can with your other comics.

I just found this today 2013-07-25. I can not get my brain cells around the talent and skill you have to write the story and do the drawings in 24 hours for a 24 page comic as well put together as 'Strong'. I am so impressed, and a little envious. I celebrate your accomplishment. I am not sure which I enjoyed more; the story and drawings of 'Strong' or cheering for you to finish the challenge. Both adventures where wonderful to follow.
