Oh rubbish. Everyone knows you can see right through to a tattoo on the skin on a thick and rugged fluffy as all hell character! *sarcasm*
People simply can't admit that there's a difference between dye jobs and tattoos is the problem. It has to be a tattoo because that's the painful difference between being a trendy sissy and a rough-around-the-edges hurt-me type.

Tattoos of porn?
Like the biker gangs!
Because we all know, when you're on the road and make a stop at the 7-11, you forgot to bring your "reading" material, you can just roll up your sleeve and eye ol' (Insert raunchy name here) to satisfy your needs.
But, if its hidden under fur....that kind of defeats the purpose

that wouldn't make sense because hair grows and falls out a lot, so the tats would never really be permanent anyway. plus if you tried to dye a chunk of fur into a pattern it would probably end up looking like a blob.
but oh wait this is the furry world so logic does not matter, nm :*)

Well, isn't the sphynx cat the only hairless cat breed? And the only hair a sphynx has is just the babysoft peachfuzz (almost like on a human's face) and the whiskers. I think...
I suppose this would be a very un-wrinklely sphynx boy. He's cute with his golden eyes. I don't think I see enough anthro cats with golden eyes, isn't it a more common eye color with cats?
Great job!

And people think I'm crazy for liking hairless cats. ;_; I love the sort of glittering effect given to the musculature. It reminds me of the light of water reflecting on a cave wall and makes me jealous for markers. :3 Wonderful lighting, The hardass look combined with the love for butterflies is just awesome - lol
You know, as silly as that sounds, that's the most logical explanation I've heard given for it so far O.o
More often than not I've seen amazing artists put tatts on their characters. How are the tatts seen through the fur? They just are, or they're permanent dye jobs. The they just are approach makes me wanna smack them while the permanent dye job has me wondering how that works since nine times out of ten it's an animal who sheds. Do they redye it every time? What if it's not a uniform shedding, which it normally isn't? Wouldn't that get to be far more trouble than it's worth? Then again, I'm the sort of girl who never bothers with make-up *shrugs*
But yeah, anyway.
Loooove this pic. The lighting is great, the angle is fun, and his expression really shows through his innerchild :3

I too have thought of the the tattoos on fur dilema awhile back and was different theoretical ways of accomplishing the task of putting permanent tattoos on fur. The main idea I kicked around was if furrie chemists were to created dyes that when tattooed into the skin, altered the skin and hair folicle DNA therefore permanently leaving the skin and hair that a particular desired color or colors. Granted that it would still probably be blurry and could possibly give you cancer, but hey at least you'd have your tattoo right?
Hee-hee but then again that's why most of my chars are hairless(human type skin) or mostly hairless. I also have a Hairless cat char who ironicly is a tattoo artist and has most of his body tattooed and pierced. Thank you for drawing this wonderful pic! It's so nice to see more hairless cat chars cuz there aren't that many around.

eeeeeeeee
I love this. His facial expression is sew sew cute and the anatomy/musculature is fantastic.
Also, you don't see enough hairless-breed anthros.
As for furry tattoos, my soultion was to cauterize the skin and burn away the hair to make a design, kinda like a farmer will brand cattle. If the person getting the brand wants color, the scar tissue can be tattooed over. Or they could also do heavy chemical scarification, or have the fur permenately removed with a laser (like laser hair removal), or even have an entire area of skin removed.

I'm a tattooist and one way to permanently dye the hair is to freeze burn like branding used on stock animals. It burns the skin and when the hair grows back in it is permanently white because the hair loses pigmentation. It would hurt just as much as a tattoo just it would be quiker during aplication.
Ooo now I'm curious. So the burning wouldn't kill off the follicle? The hair seriously does grow back white?
This might be a loophole I can seriously run with. Obviously the design would still be blurry since you have to take into account how the fur will lay against the body and the fur getting mussed and etc, but still a really neat idea.
