The very edge of Superstorm Sandy passed by Chicago. Of course we didn't get any damage or flooding, but the wind whipped up Lake Michigan with near-record waves. One crashes over the breakwater at North Avenue Beach. For size comparison, that light on the breakwater is over 20 feet tall.

A friend of mine who works for the Chicago South Shore Freight said he nearly was lifted from his feet while switching out a coal train along the lakefront that night.

Wow! Yeah, the waves were even bigger down near Gary. Wind pushed the water south until it couldn't go any further.

Would that have been the EJ&E Lakefront Yard?

Not sure, I wouldn't think CSS goes there, but I thought he said it was a coke train, which would make some sense.
