reminds me of the fox in her novel, a son of one of the women at a "companion" house.

Im sure there are more then just amon that cant be called a cur.
Two anthros of different species can be intimate, but they can't actually make a child together unless they are species-compatible.
Example if you take esha and amon and if esha had a kitten it would have the fur colors from both mom and dad so it would be dark color with a hint of the pattern from esha.
It was cause of the previous comic i noticed that there were on occasion that i saw some not-so-natural color patterns in some of the extra characters that made me think that the breeding was any male and female. The theory was based from that.
Of those species that can interbreed sterility is common theme among their offspring although each pairing has good and bad possibilities. In the case of mules only 1/1,000 is fertile making a naturally conceived second generation mule virtually unheard of. On the other hand Canis lupus it's subspecies familiaris have shown remarkable compatibility and diversity but are still incompatible with closely related species such as the Vulpes vulpes. Theoretically a infertile hybrid of fox and dog is possible but is highly unlikely and no such claims have been confirmed at this time.
However, considering the detailed work and preservation that went into them, they're *definitely* out of the financial reach of most people, and certainly the good folk working in a brothel.
