While Bowie might appear to be a color blind drag queen, that's all part of his act, and proof of his talent. The dude has a serious sense of composition, whether musical or otherwise. I guess that his work as a mime has influenced his choice of makeup somewhat, it makes him a caricature, character, and definitely draws you attention. Also, his choice of face paint MATCHES the rest of the video, and brings it together for what is otherwise just another music video full of bobbing heads. Again with the mime thing, the makeup and persona work with his body expression to help maximize the effect.
