After all the time I spent creating this piece, I suddenly don't know what to say about it. ^.^.. I'm amazed that I completed it. This is the most complex commission I've ever done - 48 characters, 18"x40" on illustration board with microns, acrylics, markers, colored pencils and watercolors. Approx. 120 hours of work.
The story behind the piece: The Chakats, family, and friends are having a great big party to celebrate the move from Earth to their new home on the planet Chakona. Characters are copyright Bernard Doove, and are part of his stories at the Chakat's Den website.
This piece will be traveling to Anthrocon to be displayed in the Anthrocon Art show. It is not for sale as it is a commission, but it will be there to be seen =). And I'm not sure how I'll be doing prints yet, but prints should be available for Anthrocon as well.

I can only imagine the sort of pride and sense of accomplishment you must get when you see this piece finished. I was amazed by the detail and sheer size of the linework alone...and have been waiting to see the colored version ever since.
THIS is simply phenominal...on so many levels. The lighting is fantastic for the time of day it is in the image...the detail on the fur...just...wow.
Excellent piece of work!

It is a great sense of achievement for me when I get to see the finished fruits of my labors.. and after the amount of time this piece took, that meant even more. This is the most time I have ever spent on a piece. But it does show me that given enough time and patience, I can achieve things I didn't think possible of me.
That's certainly true. Time is truly the great leveler...and enough time spent on anything can only improve it further. I personally love detail in any kind of artwork...and the level of that in this piece is astounding. Definitely something well worth putting the time and effort into.
Again, absolutely excellent work. Do please keep it up.

To be truthful, I'd rather not say. I don't wan't the price to overshadow the artwork, and I think it might be viewed as bragging, and rude to the commissioner to put that information on display. I was adequately compensated for my time, but I'd rather not say exactly...
Try paying more than one thousand five hundred dollars. Your an overpriced slut is what you are Kacey, admit it. Othe artists wouldn't have asked THAT much for something like this.
Need I also mention that YOU CAN'T DRAW WORTH SHIT? Your a pathetic artist, and there will always be others that are better than you. Draw all you want, you'll never get better.
I'd give up drawing if I were you. Ha ha ha!

Wow, you are so utterly full of contradictions. One day you're writing a 51-line letter saying, "You told me this before that trying to be an artist is worthwhile... apparently not though if nobody even can compare to your artwork. Where the hell is some competition? Your so fucking good that nobody can even compare to you, it gives you an unfair advantage over everybody else that draws stuff like you, and makes starting out artists like me realize how... how impossible it is to achieve anything."
...and then next you post this. :/
...and then next you post this. :/
Actually, artists in this fandom are grossly undervalued and underpaid. 1500 dollars is closer to what you'd pay a professional artist outside of the fandom especially if you want to buy the right to have it reproduced in for example a magazine.
And regardless of what your pathetic ass thinks, Kacey -is- a professional and highly skilled artist, so have fun sucking on your bile, these grapes will be forever out of your reach.

Now, I don't mean to bring this oddball subject up again, but if I had $1500 to spend, I'd definitely go for it, at least once. And she most assuredly HAS gotten better over the years. I know I'm not much of an artist, but my eyes are some of the finest out there and, for me, it's plainly visible.
OH MY GOODNESS! You actually colored it o_o I faved the line art when you posted it, I could never imagine you'd color the whole thing. You must be either very insane or very dedicated, I suppose the second one goes for you.
I can't tell you how much I admire your willpower and dedication to pull through a project as huge as this. If there was a noble prize for insanely large and detailed furry projects, you should get it.

Wow - 120 characters ought to be a sight to see!. I think the most characters I've ever seen on a single piece of art is a poster I got at Anime Expo, specifically commissioned for Anime Expo '97 that has hundreds of chibi versions of most of the popular anime characters through the 70's, 80's and early 90's. I haven't got it up on my wall since we moved, but it is quite the spectacle. We used to stare at it identifying characters and looking for characters..
That is one of the most amazing pieces I have *ever* seen. The detail draws the eye so much...
There's no way I could possibly make AC this year, which is a shame, because I'd *really* love to see that up close. Is there any way you could make prints available for order? That's something that would definitely set aside funds for.

I think what we are going to do with the prints, is make 11"x17" prints available - at the con, and after the con through Furbid, or directly contacting me.. A normal sized print (8.5"x11" just wouldnt show hardly anything, and it seems wrong to break it into pieces, because undoubtedly it would cut some characters head in half)
While drawing, I listened to several audio books, which helped pass the time a lot =). Hopefully I will be doing more large pieces (I have another one lined up to start on, though not as complex as this one) and I will become more comfortable with it and get faster =).
This rocks my socks. I love the two in the front. Are they the main characters? I was awed at the sight of this. All of the expressions are so detailed it just sorta makes me sad that it's not bigger! I wonder how the guy liked it. I bet it was even more than he imaged!! Really nice job.
Yep, the two in the front are pretty much the main characters =). I thought it was important to have them stand out - and having a 'close up' of some of the characters does help the perspective and the layout.. The placement of the other characters doesn't denote importance to the story, but I did group them into their social groups - for the most part.
I do have fun, but at times it is also very difficult.. and I do go a little nuts at times. I've needed to practice my patience and perserverence, though.. as I feel they are important qualities for an artist, and I want to improve.. so I stuck with it, didn't rush, and got through to the end..
Thank you =). Even though I can't respond to all my comments, I do read and appreciate each one (even when someone points out something I've done wrong ^.^)...
Real media is the love of my art life =). Many other artists can do fabulous things with the computer, but I wont touch the computer other than cleanup for display... Putting all my efforts into mastering real media is very important to me =) Because I know, one day, virtually nobody will do it anymore... and that will make my work more unique =)

This is all your gonna get. Just wows and omgs. To see a piece that is so detailed with that many characters is a very great thing to see. The scene is warm and cuddley, and I can see no wrong in this. You inspire me! I must work hard at my own pieces! Congratulations in completing such a difficult piece of art!
Aside from breathtaking amount of detail and activities, the feel of this image is unbelievable.
I really get a happy feeling when looking at it, which I think is remarkable :) . Furthermore, the way the species "human" gets along with both biped furries and quadrupeds is lovely.
I’m going to call Louvre and ask if they have room for another painting! ;3
There’s so much to look at I’m going up to find all 48! ^^

I must say the best work i have ever seen in my furry life. The expression, the wide angle of view SImpling amazing that you were able to capture such a scene. As always I only wish to be as good as you in my future ^^ I hope you have a deserved rest. After this i think a good weekend or week would be in order ^^ Thats what i think anyways ^^ You do as you wish.
Your work is always amazing, and is Always welcome in my favorite gallery Kacey ^^

Ma'am, that is staggering. I don't think I'd be over-stating to say it's the most complex and detailed piece of furry-produced artwork I've yet seen. I think the bar has been most thoroughly raised!
Since this is my first time at AC this year, I will certainly be on the lookout to see this in person! :)
On that though, I also wonder if you might have a spare few minutes somewhere during the con? I'm trying to film interveiws with some artists on the nature of being an artist in a niche environment and having art of the internet and such. I can provide the questions in advance, of course.
Kage's kindly pointed out that noone gets a media-pass for AC though, because they don't want the risk it might upset someone.
Makes me wonder what the point of them having someone in charge of media relations is, really.
But anyway, if you'd like to help me out at all, and don't mind either wandering off the property or to my hotel room breifly?
And yes, I know how suspect that last bit sounds. -_-;
So far I have two confirmed and one maybe.

This came out BEAUTIFULLY! You did a great job on it. I'm even more excited at the prospect of going to Anthrocon and seeing this peice in person, as well as getting a print of it if you do indeed sell them.
Great work, you can see there was a lot of time and effoert put into this peice. Kudos to a job well done! >^-^<

Dear Heavonly Father . . . this is just absolutely breath taking. I don't know which is more mind blowing, the shear beauty in this piece, or the fact (if I'm reading you right) that you did it all by hand and not on computer. I swear, your works should hung in an art museum, they are just . . . devine!
I'm amazed at the amount of time I need to spend to pick out every little thing in this! And it is time SO well-spent!! Anyone who doesn't fave this pic needs their head examined.
Personally, I can't wait for Anthrocon to see the full-sized version!! I wish they'd let me sneak in a camera!

Now that's what I call impressive!!! I don't think I can say anything that hasn't been said already, but I still have to try: you have to be the best artist I have ever seen! The attention to detail is the SAME on every one of those characters, now thats an achievement!
You have the utmost respect a computing student could give WELL DONE!!!!

All I can say after taking a good LONG look at this is...
...WHOA!!! :D
This piece is so detailed, right down to the red pawprint marking on the skunktaur's chest and the food on the bbq, that I can't even begin to imagine how long it took you from start to finish. :p
I hope I don't appear to be a suck-up or anything, but I hope you recieve some sort of special recognition for this piece. You'd deserve it.

Hey =D.. Chakat Goldfur made a page on the Chakat's Den website that can help you more than a list I write: http://www.chakatsden.com/chakat/Stories/Cast.html Halfway down the page you'll see the "Farewell to Earth" image - click on any character, and it will open a window to tell you who they are =)
What's everybody so excited about commenting on this? Bernard Doove is all out whoring Kacey and wasting his money.
There are by far many more accomplished artists than she is that could've done this better.
Never seen such a wasted effort in my life with so many commissions about one persons Felitaur character... to think, you didn't need to waste your time on this pathetic work. And you want to make prints of it?
Only in your dreams I'm afraid.

MAN!! Too many comments!! O_O *blinking*...
Okay, seriously, the pic deserves all those shouts ;). But I don't know what to say without being too 'clich'! You know what I mean ^^U.
What the heck!!
I love pics where many things are happening at the same time (let's call it details ^^). And in this one is happening a lot of stuff ^_^. A great story of big proportions in one single shot.
A must FAV!! ^_^ Beautiful!
BTW, I love the Sci-fi 'background' too ;).

Wonderful job. Just brilliant use of colour and expression. It's odd that I don't see any sad faces in the crowd. Though I know it is a happier occasion, one would think there would be a meloncholy face of somebody who will be missing somebody else.
Either way, it's still a brilliant piece and something I don't have the time nor patience to do. You, darling, are a nun! X3

Man, I've seen some great furry works in my time - drawn by the FA elites (Alpha_ki, hbruton, Muzz, etc...), no less - but I have yet to see a piece quite so stunningly detailed and marvelously executed as this. This picture may even surpass the skill of hbruton, if that's possible.
UBER FAV!!!
UBER FAV!!!
I've been wondering who the artist for this was for over half a year.
Waggs has it up in the living room of the Anaheim Fur House, at which I frequently show up at. I've been admiring it for quite some time...
Now I know. ^_^

Now I know. ^_^
This is really, really well done. It's quite amazing, and mind blowingly complicated. I would never attempt something like this, and you have my respect for actually taking up the task, paid or not.
I'm sure you know this already, and I'm sure you've been told it hundreds of times, but no matter what anyone tells you, you're not a crappy artist. There are a lot of really mean spirited people out there who feel so down on themselves that the only way for them to feel better is to try knocking someone else down.
It disgusts me to see it the kind of childish behaviour and name calling I see in this post.... I don't know you, and I don't know your personality, but I can say I see talent in this piece.
Yes, I envy your ability, but it doesn't make me hate you, and it doesn't make me want to blame you for any of my own failings.
So, in a nutshell, all I wanted to say was "Keep up the excellent work, and ignore all the idiots."

Thanks very much =)..
I don't run across many people with hateful insults about me or my work - in fact, I find it pretty impressive the number of *nice* things said about my work in the comments to this piece... So if I let the one or two rainclouds bother me, then that would be a pretty poor outlook on my life and my work =).
I'm happy with what I do... and that should be enough. But the fact that there are so many other people out there that are happy with what I do is such a blessing. Thanks again =)

Nope, the Chakats are the feline-taur type characters - if you go to www.chakatsden.com you can learn a lot about them. The humans in the picture are friends/family of theirs.
Oh my goodness...
Well, if you were going for an artistic portrait worthy of a museum archiving, you really nailed it with this one.
This is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
Dazzling in so many ways.
I can't believe you managed to make so many characters and fit them all in somewhere, it's gorgeous.
A definite fave from me, because you HAD to have spent some heavy amount of time getting this masterpiece done! Some amazingly well-spent time, I must say. <3

i would of left a comment here sooner but RL got in my way :P
this is a wonderful pic you have here :D this is the kind of art you put in a frame and hang over your fire place ^__^ and i still can't get over how well you draw your furries, its as if they ARE real, like photo realistic in a way, you know?

I've seen this picture somewhere before and not on fur affinity, and I lost it. I must say I did not know you were the artist, or that you even existed. It is up to date, my favorite furry picture, and if you made prints of it I would buy it in a second, a big one for my wall. I also wanted to say, as a woman who has had trouble with stalkers and people of the sort in the past, I think its wonderful, for a person such as yourself to continue the fight of being an artist. I have just recently found out about you, through my mate, Canis Lupis, and I must say your story on furrypedia, has touched and inspired me to become a better artist. Thank you for this Ms. Kimberly, and please keep up the inspirational artwork. Lots of love, a fellow furry artist,

At last I track down the artist! I fell head over heels in love with this picture years ago when I first discovered Chakats on Bernard Doove's Chakat's Den site. To this day it is still THE picture of perfection to which I hold other art against! I have made this into my computer's background countless times! Thank you so much for doing this! I this picture SOOO much!
Before reading it, I thought it was about the world nearing it's end due to some catastrophe and no one being able to stop it. That they just wanted to celebrate the last bits of their lives that they have left (due to the title), perhaps the last day. If you've ever seen Star Trek, you'll know what I mean by watching DS9: "Children of Time". Or at least read the summary. On the last day of the eight thousand people's lives, they all went to harvest their crops in celebration of their lives.
From IMDB: "The DS9 cast discovers a small colony on a remote world that was originally populated by them 200 years earlier due to a time-travel accident with the Defiant. The current colonists lives depend on making sure that accident happens again, even though they've now forwarned the crew that it will happen. Each crew member needs to decide if they are willing to give up their lives on DS9 in order to preserve the history of the colony." Ultimately, the crash is averted and the 8,000 colonists cease to exist.
"Alright we'll make a quick survey, but if all we detect is some fungus, we're not beaming down."
"What if it's smart fungus?"
- Sisko and Dax
huh, food for thought.

Just showing my Fiancee, How amazing and Constant your Artwork has been over all these years. She is very impressed, and we both hope to one day commission you. Thank you for keeping up with the fandom and producing so many amazing and beautiful masterpieces all theses year.
