<LoL!> A "Happy Mistake" as I botched drawing his tail and tried to salvage it to no avail. So, it is just a badly done "hider". *Shrugs* Ah, well. At least now I know how to draw his tail from front-to-back instead of back-to-front.

I'm not good with MLP: FiM style either. Though, I do my best, just as I know you do, to capture things as well as you can in your own, special style. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed it. For the time being, I think drawing larger things will be my easiest way to get back into the arts while my eye continues to heal. So, in the future, I will be trying to do big piccies until I gain a bit more clarity.

And, you know, it is VERY hard to find a good Spike pic. Even harder to find one of him in a diaper. Weird, as you can find the Mane 6 and the Cutie Mark Crusaders in diapers quite a bit, but not Spike. The irony being that Spike is the actual "Baby". How odd... :)

He kind of has an odd body shape for diapers... there's like a hump or something on his back. So I can imagine that, if you try to draw spike in full on MLP FiM style it might be kind of hard.

True. Though, I don't know if I can replicate MLP FiM style. Though, I always give my best to capture the spirit of the character and, well, Spike could definitely only gain in cuteness with a soft, fluffy diaper around his chubby waist and shuffling nearly on the ground as he toddles about. :)

In the world I imagine, I couldn't see Twilight ever once having changed Spike as a itty-bitty Baby Dragon. It just doesn't seem something she'd do. This is why, in my writings, I go with Princess Celestia doing the work as she, for being as ancient, wise, and powerful as she is, probably has some of the most maternal instincts and has no mind in doing such a chore at all.

Remember the episode "Winter Wrap Up"? I believe, as it has been said on MLP Wiki, that Spike refers to Princess Celestia when he says to Twilight, "...You're not mommy".

Another theory I have is that, and I think I'll write this sometime, too, is that Princess Celestia did something to keep Spike's wings from growing out. This goes with my theory on Gems being a dietary need for him as, since gems are linked with magic, they may work to maintain a containment spell that limits Spike from developing certain traits natural to dragons. However, as we've seen, there are certain circumstances in which the spell can be negated "Secret of My Excess". :)

Sorry to go on-and-on, but it is something I've thought on lots as I link myself to Spike in personality. Any thoughts of your own you'd care to share being a fellow dragon yourself? :)

Yeah, Spike probably doesn't see Twilight as a mother figure. Probably more like a big sister if anything. Though, she might have had some experience taking care of Spike as a hatchling. In "Babycakes," when she came to check up on Pinkie Pie, she seemed to go straight to tidying up the house pretty naturally. She seemed to know a lot about taking care of little ones too when she was talking with Pinkie. So I would hypothesize that she may have gotten some experience taking care of Spike as a hatchling, though more than likely Princess Celestia had a hoof in helping raise Spike as well. After all, taking care of a baby dragon when you're a little filly trying to unlock the mysteries of magic is quite a heavy workload.

In regards to the wings, there could be some sort of enchantment on Spike since it seems all the adolescent dragons have their wings already and he never got them even as a full grown dragon. Sometime I think that he's of a variety of dragon that doesn't have wings. Maybe whoever found his egg was able to identify it as a wingless dragon egg. Maybe dragons without wings are subject to the hatred of other dragons or maybe they can't survive in the wild on their own. The only thing I never got about dragon portrayal in MLP: FiM was that Spike grew to a full blown adult in a matter of days (maybe even hours) whereas those "teen" dragons didn't seem to be growing up particularly quickly, and they were complete and utter selfish jerks for the most part.

Great points! I just about forgot how Twilight came in and tried to assist Pinkie with the Cake Twins. She did seem quite sure of her ability to help and, as a result, would imply she's had some degree of experience in caring for little ones. So, unless she has a younger sibling we don't know about yet, it would stand to make sense that she would have had some chances to care for Spike.

Thanks for the input reminder as, when I wrote more Spike stuff, I'll be sure to not go all out on Celestia being the full raiser of Spike. Perhaps I will make a "Final Semester" test for her to have more hands-on caring with Spike so they can acclimate themselves more while he gets used to being around Twilight instead of Celestia all the time.

And, great! Another good point is how there could potentially be a species of wingless dragons in Equestria. Or, more likely, the mother and father dragon knew the unborn baby would have defects due to a sense or how the egg came out. As a result, Spike's egg was abandoned and left behind and, one day, somepony came across it and brought it straight away back to Celestia for research as, like we found in "Dragon Quest", there is little known knowledge on dragons.

I believe I will subscribe to this idea as to how Spike's egg was found. In any sense, his pre-hatching backstory is very sad as it is unlikely he'd ever find his real mom and/or dad and, even if he did, they'd probably reject him for being wingless and quite different than the dragon types we saw in the volcano. :(

<LoL!> I get a kick out of all the things Spike learned about himself while in the volcano, though. I bet he never realized he could survive going into lava until that point. A useful trait for heat related matters. Heck, if there was ever a fire, I'm sure Spike could rush in and save someopony as he is fire resistant. :)

To quote Daenerys Targaryen: "Fire does not burn The Dragon." It's cool that they made that canon in MLP. =P

I got really excited for dragon quest, being such a huge fan of dragon's and all. Overall it was a good episode, though it is rather sad to see that most dragons appear to be rather mean aside from Spike. I'm hoping they do an episode where we get to explore Spike's early hatchling days. Maybe he'll be wondering why he was abandoned and/or lost by his parents. Maybe he'll want to know why they brought his egg back to Canterlot. I can picture this as possibly being quite the tear-jerker type episode, and would enjoy seeing something like this get released.

*Nods* I couldn't agree with you more. Perhaps, while Twilight and friends do there thing, Spike can be "on business" in Canterlot and have the time to ask Princess Celestia all she knows about his past as, technically, she'd have to know of such an egg being around given how, to ponies, dragons are very scary and little is known besides, "Stay away from them!"

They could even do it as Spike attends what has been referred to as "business in Canterlot" as it would be neat to see how, or why, he actually gets called away. Perhaps, every so often, Celestia has to cast a spell on him to ensure he stays "tame" and he doesn't realize it as being anything more than just a vaccine spell, or something like that? Lots of potential if they would do such a thing...

Then again, as I often see Spike getting hosed in the episodes, I kind of feel he is always going to be that comic sidekick who for comedy relief more than true depth and/or purpose.

Ever watch "Last Action Hero"? There's a good part in it where the kid who gets sucked into the movie realizes he is the "comedy relief" and knows he's doomed to failure in his attempt to be a hero. :)

Always can write out a little Spike history on my own. It may not be canon, but I do like the concepts you bring up and want to write them. Good fun and times! :)

*Happy cry* I'm just so happy my genetics didn't get him. Growing up visually impaired and outcasted is awful and I do all I can to show him how proud I am of him as, from personal experience, I know what low confidence can do. My parents were very caring and supportive. However, as a kid, all you want is to be accepted by your peers and feel like everyone else. Being a "Black Sheep" is no fun. :(

Agreed. *Huggles* Those of us in the "outcast" category do tend to appreciate those we can befriend and the areas we can be special and useful in. This is because, unlike societal norms, we take pride in the friends we make and treasure them rather than seeing them as conveniences or just someone to talk to here-and-then.

This goes with a belief I've tried to pass on to employers in that "If you give someone with a disability a chance, they'll prove to be an asset you never knew you could ever have".

As it is much harder for folks like you and I to gain gainful employment, we strive to be our best and, despite struggling at times, are proud of our jobs instead of grumpy. :)

*nods n huggles* Yeah, and those with a disability tend to be happy just having a job as well, instead of resenting having to come in every day. We get grumpy when we have nothing to do and feel like burdens, but are happy when we can accomplish something others thought we couldn't.

Oh, I am HUGE into MLP: FiM. It is an inspiration to my writing as, on a personal level, I've tried to write material like MLP: FiM for over 13 years. Seeing how the show works gives me hope that, one day, my work will get noticed so long as I keep at it. :)

*Nods* Derpy would be my second to Spike. I have a number of reasons, too, in which the biggest one is that we both have issues with our vision and have a very obvious eye problem. However, despite this fact, Derpy does her best with as much spirit as she can muster and, well, so do I. :)

D'aww! That is cute! I think they did a great job presenting Derpy in a fun, happy light as opposed to all the negative talk she got when she was finally given screen time in "The Last Roundup".

One thing I am very happy to have is a copy of the "Friendship Express" DVD as it was made before the edit. So, no matter what, I will always have the original Derpy moment as opposed to the edited version.

Being honestly, i think is really ridiculus judge Derpy by her voice, because, why the voice become important? Well, maybr, but i think the voice of Derpy was perfect (i think so)

I agree as well. I know a few people, like myself, who were quite disappointed at her being put back / corrected. The reason it upset me, and another friend in particular, is that taking away her eye issue and changing her voice makes it seem like Equestria isn't a place for the disabled and, for a show based on friendship, it is unfair to make it seem like someone who has a disability can't be a great addition to the cast beyond a background pony.

Though, on the other side of the fence, there are also folks with disabilities who feel ridiculed by Derpy and, as a result, Hasbro had no choice but to fix her and limit her screen time. It is a family show and, if it offends folks, then it isn't family and is best to fix then to try to explain X, Y, or Z for keeping a character the way (s)he is.

I guess to be fair it was the Bronies who named her Derpy Hooves and the Bronies who were being homaged when she got a moment in the sun. Just sad she was taken the wrong way. Though, to be perfectly honest, I thought Derpy was a guy. Oh, well. It is what it is. *Shrugs*

Its okay man, i think somebody can learn if somebody is diferent (lets say on this case: disabled) even need to be treaty like a person (or a pony), oh well, but here a fun fact: actually the guy who made derpy, was because was like a error of programing

1.- No, sorry, i dont have cards of MLP: FiM, but i like to collect that cards and other things, like tshirts, or plushies.

When I was 18, I got back into watching "The Land Before Time" and enjoying cartoons again. Needless to say, I made it public and my closest friend and I fought for our entire Senior year as a result of him feeling I was "too immature". That sucked royally as, just as you probably know, you can't help what you like and what you like is what kind of makes you, well, you.

On a positive, you can freely talk ponies with me or any of the other Bronies on here. There are plenty to find. They do pony art of various nature, too, so there is certainly some take on the show that will fulfill your tastes / interests.

It's surprising what you can learn and do on a site like this. Personally, I grew a lot after getting to realize how, despite how different we all are, we all really are looking for the same thing and that is a friend, or friends, who understand and appreciate us for who we are.

Now, if being amongst furries ever seems creepy, you can always get yourself involved with DeviantArt. That site is more for the mainstream and doesn't get the kind of eye-roll associating with us furry-folks may get.
