Heh, awesome. I've been running a Gentoo system for years. :D They're great once you get to know how they work!

Yeah, the HARDEST was doing the menuconfig and USE flags. D: I had to re-emerge packages and compile my kernel several times because of that... and then I found out there was only like 4 or 5 flags I really needed, and I could figure out the rest later. I don't really know too much about my own system, so I had to lotsa Googling. :P

I used ufed to manage my USE flags. It makes it really easy. Also, whenever you emerge something, always use --pretend first, it will show you what USE flags the packages you want have available and will show what will be emerged. It helps out quite a bit, especially if you don't know what you need.

In any case I get to go do some re-compiling since I know what I'm doing now! I'm really glad I'm doing this within another Linux OS instead of in Windows. ._.

Laptops are good?

Gentoo on laptops is a pain... I've done it to every laptop I've owned. :D

It isn't too bad; I don't have a desktop, just this one laptop.

Maybe it was just because I did it on my EeePC. Then again, it wasn't that bad. :P It was just a little slow at compiling certain things. :P

Ewwy, sady Linux sucks in the power management area... even Ubuntu is bad... That's why I primarily use Windoze on my lappies...

Well it isn't THAT bad... I normally turn down brightness all the way, turn off my wlan if I don't need internet (my laptop came with a handy external on/off switch :P), kill a couple unnecessary processes... and I get as much battery as I did when I was using Windows, if not better.

Still, I do wish Ubuntu came with a way to automate all of that. :U It instead gives you redundant info about battery/voltage history since when you last powered it on. Wtf?

I'm mainly talking about speed stepping... The last time I played with linux, it just used my CPU full force all the time... battery goes "zooouupupppuuupppppoop... *flat-lines*"

So what would that make Slackware? Rape? :p
