Writing more regularly
I'm working on getting into a habit of writing regularly. The initial goal is to write only once a week -- nothing fancy, no high self-expectations, just write. 1,000 words, 500, even 50. If I write anything, I consider it a success.
I've been quite successful the last couple weeks, writing almost every day. I believe today is my ninth consecutive day of doing *something*, and I view that as a solid victory. It feels good to exercise myself creatively. I put a lot of effort into the story I published yesterday, but I plan on doing shorter exercises that I edit less, and generally take less seriously. 7200 word behemoths are kind of exhausting to write and edit! They're also a big investment for the reader.
I'll continue to do those too. Maybe not quite 7200 words (unless I'm inspired), but I enjoy story-telling, and it was fun getting inside my main character's head.
I have a number of goals for 2022 that I am working toward, and for my personal well-being and need for expression, I think this is a great habit to develop. I don't know how frequently I'll publish things here, but I will definitely aim to be more prolific than usual. I just hope I don't burn out again, as seems too easily the case. Right now, though, I am determined to make writing a habit, and I intend to use that to my advantage.
