Week 4 with Tex

Such an expensive experience trying to raise a kitten. -_-
After dealing with the litter issue and finally finding one that she'll use I had to deal with another problem. Seems she doesn't like the kibble that I got on sale.
I got a bag of Royal Canin/Kitten food that she eats and was running low. I had two bags of Authority cat food and tried to mix it up. I come home and notice lots of kibble around her bowl, round ones belonging to Authority, but she's eaten all the star shaped Canin types. Added more and I notice her picking out the new kibble. So I leave a whole bowl of the new stuff out, but come back home and it hasn't been touched and she's meowing at me. The instant I put down the little bit of Canin left, she pretty much tackled the bowl and started to scarf it down. Well, that's money I'm not getting back. Had to order two more bags on Amazon since Petsmart was out. That stuff is expensive. Dunno what I'll do once she becomes an adult in a year or so and I'll have to switch. At least she eats all the wet stuff I bring her.
Took her to the vet and donated the two bags of food she won't eat. Was supposed to just get her a 4 in 1 shot for rabies, heartworm, distemper, and something else and that was supposed to be $135.
Upon checking up on her ears though they found an infestation of ear mites and showed me. I was shocked but luckily it isn't contagious to humans. So aside from the shot they gave her an ear flush and cleaning and gave me the medicine to give to her for the next few days. They also applied a flea treatment gel which has given her a spiky haired punk look. For free since I brought them the catfood they trimmed her nails for free.
Total cost come up to $230 and another visit in 3 weeks for a check up. Tex was well behaved during the whole ordeal, didn't put up a fight or howl or attack. She was bummed out when we got home though and she realized she couldn't climb up on the furniture like she used to and had to ask me to help pick her up. But aside from sporting a punk hair look she's still playing around with her plastic toy balls and robots, figured out how to pop the lid to her treat ball, and still likes to bite my feet when I'm walking around.
Unfortunately doing that in the middle of the night as I was going to the bathroom caused me to trip on her and squish her between my ankles letting her yelp out and run off. I quickly picked myself up and found her cowering under the bed with her tail between her legs. I thought I hurt her badly at first but she eventually came out and after petting her and calmly talking to her she got cuddly again. I will now have to tread lightly around the house. I would hate myself if I hurt her by accident.
Aside from all that, I am finding out that taking care of a single kitten is quite the cost. I don't think I'll be adopting a second one any time soon. This will also put a damper on buying any new guns, DnD stuff, or video games in general. At least we've been watching lots of stuff on TV thanks to her resting on my chest and belly. She likes watching anime more than anything else, doesn't care for Star Wars unfortunately, and lots of cat videos onYouTube. ^_^;

One possible thing that can help some with the biting is wearing socks: sometimes cats will associate play with the clothing versus the body part, so when you're not wearing them, your feet are no longer valid toys (but it can vary from cat to cat). Otherwise, other games/distractions can sometimes help sate them from foot hunting.
katzez is krazy!
these will create good memories though!
glad to hear the kitten learned the "don't play around walking feet" without any real injury. hopefully there's no more suprise costs anytime soon.
Not done with the smut just yet, but it may be a while before we see any.
