How Alt-furries / nazifurs recruit (example)
This step-by-step guide follows a recent example of a known alt-right, transphobic furry porn artist using someone's public Discord to recruit new victims.

Step 0: Be a racist, transphobic, horrific alt-right asshole. Bonus points if also an artist that draws niche porn – there will always be people who want wank material so bad they will tolerate (or adopt) any ideology spewed at them.
Step 1: Attack and harass the target until a reaction is provoked in public
Step 2: Respond to the public reaction with ‘reasonable-sounding’ responses, appear as the calm and rational one, appeal to decorum and congeniality so that onlookers don’t know who to trust.
Step 3: Gaslight the target and gaslight the audience, reframe the context for onlookers so it all becomes blurred into ‘he-said-she-said’
Step 4: When some members of the audience step in to join the conversation, keep projecting that congenial attitude, appear relaxed, keep gaslighting and reframing context to sound like the victim in all this. Appeal to authority, fabricate whatever lie or half-truth needed.
Step 5: The target of the initial attack may be gone at this point, leaving the audience alone and free to be recruited from. Appeal to reason, ask innocent-sounding questions, direct the conversation to generate the most sympathy or, better yet, empathy with others who feel put-upon in their own lives.
Step 6: Develop a relationship with the participating audience members, they are now potential recruits to side against the initial target.

It's saddening to think about, but I'm glad you're making people aware of this sort of thing.
Conversely, the narrative around the 'far left' being equally crazy allows the right, far and otherwise, to lump even moderate leftists in with extremists. An example being Bernie Sanders, for instance, who's left-wing, but mostly by American standards. By the standards of the rest of the world he's quite moderate, which both makes it clear just how much more right-leaning the US center is in a global sense, but also how warped the standards of the political establishment in the US has to be to consistently portray someone like Sanders (again, a left-leaning moderate by most standards) as some the second coming of Josef Stalin.
Essentially the US right has managed to engineer public perception through decades of media coverage (Fox News, for instance), policy (Reagan, the Bushes, Trump), and Democrat appeasement of these efforts to a point where crazy things on the right only reflect on those individuals that get caught doing shit, while 'crazy' stuff on the left (and a lot of this so-called 'crazy' stuff is like, protesting extra-judicial murders by police of minorities) reflects on the *entirety* of the left.
That's not even touching on the fact that the different ideologies of the two sides of the spectrum are fundamentally different. The core of leftist ideology is concerned with economic and social equality in the end, and while the real-life political entities (such as the USSR or China) that supposedly espouse such ideals quickly became mired in oppressive power struggles and authoritarianism and lost sight of that really quickly, the *core idea* is still something that I think people would have trouble disagreeing with. The oppression is not inherent to the ideology but instead the result of bad actors coopting the movements for their own gain.
Right-wing ideology, on the other hand, is based in conservatism and resistance to social change. It espouses regressive, hierarchical modes of government. The oppression is the *point*, and it's baked into the ideology's very roots.
As for the biit about bad actors, sadly that's something that will never change. There will always be terrible people, doing terrible thing. Power corrupts which is a sad truth. Also I do like the idea of social change, and frankly I've always crossed my fingers that rather than fighting, people can just be more open and understanding of differences and more cooperative on things that matter. Like improving sustainable tech, and actually getting space travel going a lot harder.
But alas, the people at the top, who have their fingers in all money pudding wont let that happen easily, rather they'd like to pass the bill of a dying world onto the next generation. D:
