Targeted destruction of food access.
Something we recently learned about, and it's enraging.
Targeted destruction of food access.
The strategy is for the wealthy owners of dollar stores to deliberately open too many of them too close to full-service grocery stores, siphoning off sales from the store until it is in the red, and goes out of business. This also affects restaurants in the area.
Then closing all but one of the dollar stores, and deliberately under-staffing the lone remaining store (Dollar General). The community is left without access to healthy food; the entire area is turned into a food desert.
Do this enough times against a chain, and then the wealthy move to merge the major grocery chain with one they already own, for cheap.
Then they don't actually build any new stores. They just up the price at the remaining stores, while forcing the food desert communities to commute a long distance to get there.

Voting got us Trump.
The Supreme Court recused themselves.
The House and Senate clearly don't function.
What do we do?
The lower courts are SEETHING with frustration about the Supreme Court. 93% of lower courts go against Trump. The Supreme court goes 93% in -favor- of Trump. Support and vote in the judges that won't back down to fascism.
The House and Senate don't function by design - but with enough progressives in place, it will. Break the Republican and Corporate Democrat hold on it with progressive candidates.
But other than vote, what can YOU do?
Answer: Talk about this shit with everyone you know (when relevant). Bring it up as a talking point. It doesn't even have to get political; this is an issue where everyone except the billionaires agree on. Which is true across most things, really. Don't feel isolated because of political divides - if you stick to workers issues and easy to understand issues like food deserts, you'll get a lot more allies who will, in turn, vote along these lines.
But you do it anyway because besides being a narcissistic, sociopathic animal with no impulse control, you also don't know what else to do because you were raised on a steady diet of casual cruelty and hypocrisy. You passively accrue money and hurt people, and that's all you know how to do.
Many communities that suffer from food deserts also only have access to medical facilities hours away. And with ACA tax credits going away, many of those will also have to shut down.
Its cheaper to be kind.
