Why I don't regularly buy commissions....anymore

You probably have noticed, I may have some select artists that I choose to get stuff done, but even then I get rather iffy about it anymore. This reason is because....you paid for it, so you want to get your money's worth out of it, but sometimes the artists can be rather jerks and be like 'you get what you get' regardless if you are satisfied with the outcome or not. There are also many art pieces that I paid good money for like leading up to like 5 pieces, on average of $30 USD each, up to 8 years ago, and still haven't seen anything yet. So yeah, unfortunately some artists are scammers. So if you take this into account, in a sense, buying art is just a huge waste of money.
Another reason is that I'm really getting picky on the styles, and I just think with enough practice and such, you can just do it yourself and save yourself a ton of money, and that's exactly what I'm doing. I'm not the greatest artist at all, but I've come to a point where I can do a lot of the stuff I would pay 20 to 30 USD an artist to do for me anymore. YOU KNOW what you want, so why not you DIY?

I know where you're coming from. I had an artist sit on a commission for four months, rush job it, then when I pointed out it didn't follow the details I provided; they decided they didn't want to work on it and refund it. Thankfully.
Now, this was a character I wanted to get art on, but couldn't because I needed that character sheet reference for other artists. So it became a big thing that it was so delayed, didn't get done, and it isn't the first time this has happened either. My character Nathaniel would have been around a good two years earlier, if it wasn't for a bad artist.
So there is a lot of risks involved, good artists come and go, and when there are reliable ones; you're competing for a slot with others who figured that out. It's a difficult game to play.
But most of us cannot draw ^.=.^; So we have to play it.
