As an Ohioan, I can't see how this is helpful advice to anyone. We tend to try to leave this place rather than encourage others to join haha

How did they react?

It was...mixed. My siblings were universally supportive. My dad seems to be awkward about it, but supportive. My mom was livid and says she needs to "digest this information" though.

She'll probably talk to your dad and siblings and come around. Don't stress. Seems pretty positive.

It will be an adjustment for them i am sure. but its better to be who you are and not who they think you are.

Awe! That sounds terrifying.. But I imagine tearing off the bandaid quickly vs. over time will be a little less stressful in the end. Glad your siblings had your back 🖤

The only person that I 'Know' is aware of my Gender Dysphoria is my Mother ... who had a frustrating, 'defaultly supportive' response, while also acting like if we just never discuss it again, it will just go away.

I don't know what I would do if my WHOLE FAMILY found out. My aunts and uncles are a broad range of eccentric. Some would embrace it ... but others would probably try to host an intervention/exorcism and/or demonize me. I would be freaking out too.

Hey that's a huge step to take, and an important one!
As with everything in life there will always be naysayers and supporters, just do you!

As much as I support those who truly are trans to the other sex they were born as (Trans-trenders piss me off to no end with how they have soiled the true trans community) I do wonder how and why and when you felt you were meant to be the opposite sex. How much therapy have you gone through to have come to this conclusion. what is the motivation?

I ask this not as to be dismissive, but out of concern due to the over whelming number of people who become "trans" because they are not happy or have been pressured into it or have a sexual fantasy then after all is said and done, many fall into depression and commit suicide. (50% rate as of current), not to mention the detransistion rate.

*hugs* I just want you to be happy and healthy both body and mind.

It's been something I've dealt with for almost fifteen years now - since 2007. It's taken years upon years of introspection, hand-wringing, talking things over with therapists and friends and other transwomen, gaining the support and courage I needed to commit to transitioning and then another year of being on HRT (hormone therapy) before I came out to my family.

And of course I am healthy and I am MUCH happier for having done so. It's scary coming out to my family but i don't regret transitioning in any way - it's one of the few things I've ever done that I have had zero doubts or second-thoughts about.

I'm glad to hear and happy for you. its a rough road ahead, but you have been on the right track and been responsible with it and no doubt will be successful in your endeavor. ^v^ I wish you a world of luck and good tidings.
