The answer is educating kids at as young an age as they can understand, and with an appropriate level of detail for their age, about sex, sexuality and grooming. They need to be taught that if anyone says or does anything to them that makes them feel uncomfortable they are safe, will be believed, and won't be shamed when they tell an appropriate adult.

I actually had experience with one. A friend of mine was getting divorced, and it got nasty. His ex accused him of sexually abusing his daughter. This was reported in a local newspaper. The case later fell apart when his daughter wouldn't play along, but damage had already been done by the newspaper article.

The only kind of "Chemical alteration" that I'm aware of being used on children is to put off puberty. It's temporary, reversible, and accepted as valid treatment by every reputable medical organization. It's done with the full cooperation of, and at the wish of the child, the parents, and responsible medical professionals. Surgery isn't done on kids. Only on fully mature adults.

Someone having a heroin overdose and being trans doesn't necessarily have anything to do with each other, and if it did it would be as likely to be as a result of how people abuse and discriminate against trans people -as opposed to just accepting them- as anything. The suicide and murder rates of trans people ARE alarmingly high. It's not an easy road to take, and people wouldn't do it if they didn't really feel that they needed to. And it's made unnecessarily difficult by people who hate them and discriminate against them because of their own fears and misunderstandings.

And yes, occasionally people do go through the procedures and then decide that they're not happy with it. People change their minds about all kinds of things. But most trans people who go through surgery -And not all of them do- do it because the dysphoria they felt was making them miserable, and they're much happier afterwards. It's not something that people enter into lightly, or because of outside influences.

In order to get to the point of going through surgery, people usually go through years of counseling and living as the gender they wish to affirm. And no reputable surgeon would do this sort of surgery without knowing that the person that they're operating on is ready and going to benefit from it.

Do you even find it possible to imagine what it must feel like to know in your heart that the gender of your body doesn't match the gender you've felt you were for as long as you can remember? Seriously. Try it. -You wake up one morning in the body of a woman. Everybody sees you as one, treats you as one. You look like one. No one else sees you as you really are. This goes on for years. How would you feel? Might you wish your body to match what you know in your heart you are?

You really need to get out of your little right wing bubble and meet some actual trans people, spend some time with them, talk with them, listen to them. They're not really scary. They're not freaks. They're people just like you.

By listening to them and blindly going along with everything they say you just make yourself an unquestioning tool of those same destructive forces.

As a gay man, I hate that the opponents of the Florida anti-grooming bill tried to make it a gay issue, and so many people went along with it, especially when historically homosexuals were all painted as pedophiles and it took generations to separate the two in the public consciousness. I believe that sexual education is important, yes, but back when I was in school it was done around the age of puberty and with parental consent, as it should be. Third grade and earlier is way too young to be discussing such things with children, especially without the parents being a part of it.
