In Response to the Thursday Prompt...

I'm a writer too. I've got short tales, long ones, a few book-length, and somehow nothing that's ever matched up with the prompt du semaine.
I was born with the space age, and as Reagan once remarked, I've somehow gone from liberal to conservative in six decades of being able to think, all without moving an inch...
I've seen a lot, I've read a lot, and the older I get the more I realize that people keep making the same mistakes over and over again. Usually by listening to folks who promise that they know the answers... ("But that trick never works!" "This time for sure! Presto!")
I'm a high school teacher by trade, retired now. (The simple subjects, math, chemistry and physics. Okay, maybe not simple, but the ones that have definite right answers.)
Here's to fellow misfits, may we keep writing and enjoying life in spite of the naysayers!

As writers, it's our onus to relate the truths about ourselves (as in "people") to those who have ignored such things. The greater the truth, the more devious we must be relating it or our audience will reject it. Thus writers of imaginative fiction (mostly SF and fantasy) have the opportunity to tell the most.
I need to get back to writing; I'm currently mostly editing. And coming up with fanfic ideas based on reading things on SufficientVelocity and SpaceBattles. (A lot of Worm ideas. Don't look at me like that.)
Worm DOES need a lot of fixing...
Fixing "Worm" would be a major project; fact-checking, psychology profiles, debating plot vs probabilities, working out a lot of peripheral things to know their influence...
Me? I poke around to find hidden things and ponder how they work. Or try to decide how adding something new (for certain meanings of the word) would change things. Such as taking the canon "it always gets worse" and seeing if it can survive some of Irwin Allen's "and then the heroes win." Or hugs from a chakat.
What I did eventually figure out is that the usual teaching methods for it were not the way to go.
