Like many people born over the last thirty years, I grew up reading and loving Harry Potter, and like many people in the LGBTQ community, I was at a loss when JK Rowling revealed herself to be virulently and unrepentantly transphobic; a large part of my childhood had become irreparably tainted.

As excited as you may be to see the new upcoming Fantastic Beasts film, I implore you not to go. As Rowling is the creator and screenwriter of this series, every ticket that is bought equates to money in the pockets of a horribly bigoted woman who continues to promote hate speech.

I am sure that none of you would ever dream of giving money to a racist like Donald Trump. Please understand that transphobia is just as vile as racism; even in the UK, transphobia leads to discrimination, harassment, assault, suicide, and even the murder of transgender people, with these numbers ever rising due to the political climate over the last six years.

If you wouldn't feel comfortable lining the pockets of an outspoken and unrepentant racist, then please think before giving any more money (by way of book, DVD, or ticket sales) to an outspoken and unrepentant transphobe.
