There are two reasons that thorium salt nuclear power plants are not being planned on being built any time soon.
The first reason is that they are not capable of producing nuclear weapon grade material, so the military and the industries that support the military has no interest in paying for its development and those two groups are who pays for the vast majority of large scale advancement of technology.
Then there is the enviromist anti nuclear crowd who is against anything to do with nuclear technology because they wrongly think that anything to do with nuclear technology whatsoever can be and more importantly will be weaponized.
Because of these two groups of people, we are pumping nearly 40 billion tons of CO2 into the earth's atmosphere each year.
Because of how thorium salt nuclear power works reactor meltdowns are not physically possible because when the liquid fuel overheats the nuclear reaction actuality slows down and can actually stop without human or technology involvement. With safeguards in place if the fuel does overheat the fuel can automatically be drained from the reactor without any human involvement. This works because there is a plug in the reactor that when it is heated up to a set temperature it will melt, and with the plug gone the liquid fuel will drain from the reactor into storage tanks.
Wind and solar technolagy can not solve the world energy problem as they are just way to limited. To even be viable we need to produce massive battery systems that create far more environmental problems than they solve. Of course, then there is that solar cells don't work without sunlight and wind turbines don't work without the wind blowing.
If we would just invest into thorium salt nuclear energy, we can solve not only our world energy problems but also our CO2 environmental problems. Also, with limitless energy a lot of the worlds water problems can be solved with desalination planets. Another benefit with an endless source of electrical power we can build plants that pull-out CO2 from the atmosphere liquefy it and pump it into permit undergrown storage like maybe the caverns that have been created where oil was removed. Or even separate the oxygen and carbon. The oxygen can be released into the atmosphere and the carbon made into carbon fiber and make things out of it.
But because people are just so politely politicized and out right refuse to even consider some other persons ideas, we will just continue to be poisoning the planet.

If that ever happens again, I have created other plans, so I am even more comfortable wail the power is out. My heater uses gas but the controller is electrical. If it happens during a winter storm, I can plug my heater to my portable generator and then have heat. Now if it happens during the summer do to heat well I am SOL on the AC and am limited to portable fans.
Even just 100 years ago, lightning strikes started forest fires that would burn for months. Nobody ever thought about fighting them. The amount of soot and C02 released into the air was un-measurable. This happened on a global scale. A single volcanic explosion could also release immeasurable amounts of poisonous gasses and C02. It is not as if the Planet has no way to correct itself after these events. In the past, Humans had to change "with" the environment, it was silly to think they could change the environment to their liking. They must change and adapt or become like the dinosaurs. I think the next big crisis to hit humanity will be over-population, plain and simple, it will tax the fresh water sources and food supply. Desalination to water crops is excessively energy hungry. Nuclear energy is always an option, but in any conflict, they will be a target, Thorium reactors everywhere would just become military targets. Even the roman empire fell, luckily they did not leave broken reactors poisoning the place for the next 200,000 years. Just something to think about, every bit of radioactive elements that still exist on the planet, have been decomposing since the beginning of time, Imagine just how radioactive this planet was when it was new. =^.^= Lets all get out our welding goggles and a 12 pack, sit on the roof and watch the Chinese and Russian missiles rain down, I don't foresee a peaceful future as long as human nature is what it is.
