Pausing or Closing Patreon in about 2 months

Before saying anything, this is a bit of a rant, so please do not share this on social media, my intention is to inform and express myself, if you agree with me, simply share your own words and not copy paste mine. My intention is to keep you informed and not to cause hate or controversy.
Apparently Patreon got "requested" by Mastercard to ask ALL 18+creators to provide a photo of our government ID and a selfie along with it, so they send it to their "trusted" third party company to verify users.
Let's be honest, 18+creators has always been discriminated by Payment processors and websites because our content is "too obscene" and now Patreon/Mastercard wants us to give this information so they can share it to their "trusted" third party company to handle it?
If Mastercard wants to verify +18 creators to fight fraud, why not keep Mastercard debit/credit to adults only so we don't have to deal with all that?
I don't know how it is where you live, but here in Mexico the government ID is something you shouldn't share with anyone or give to anyone with a few exceptions. If you lose it, go and report it because you could get your identity stolen and fraud committed under your name. I won't be trusting any random "trusted" company with handling such information. If there is a Leak in their servers, it is really bad news for us. If Mastercard/Patreon/Paypal want to fight fraud... don't give scammers the tools to steal information to commit fraud -.-

I also heard Paypal wants to use automated tech to keep track of the users.

I think artists needs to show rejection towards this kind of stuff. It's not fair that sexual content gets the special aggressive treatment, while other media which is actually damaging doesn't (I'm looking at you sensationalist journalism/news).
It would be nice if they stop hunting us for doing nothing bad. If they get away with this kind of invasive practices, it won't surprise me if later they start putting limitations on other things. Others tried before with "videogames makes people want to kill", they failed thanks to the rejection.
I think is important to defend artistic freedom in all senses as long you don't harm and/or abuse others.
Differentiating between fiction and real life is necessary and shouldn't have the same limitations or we will destroy what art is suppose to be; Freedom of speech and sending a message through other perceptive means.
Thanks to all people who have followed me all this years. I greatly appreciate your support!
If I close patreon I'll just move somewhere else. I know not all artists can simply close an income source, but simply showing rejection can help too.
Thanks for reading

Hope you find your way! Maybe time for Subscribestar if they prevail.
Sorry this is happening :/
I think they're in a hard position here. Underage sexual content is like the number one thing all sites want to stamp out at all costs because it is one of the few things online law enforcement actually files charges about, which makes it utterly toxic for sites and the financial systems behind those sites.
It's clear checking a box that says "I'm 18" isn't good enough. How else would they verify with more certainty how old one of their, I guess we'll say - "merchants" - in their "store" is?
Then again, if a site was demanding my ID as a user I probably wouldn't give it to them either.
But like I said somewhere else, the main concern here is the data breach, even Patreon admited it could happen.
"If Jumio were to suffer a data breach, would creators be informed?
Yes. We require Jumio, in the event of a data breach, to alert us promptly and in meaningful detail, which we would in turn share with creators as soon as possible."
And knowing such delicate information is at risk of being in the hands of criminals is the concerning part.
Patreon has been riding a very sketchy line (especially for tax purposes!) of letting pretty much anyone make money from them. They're a marketplace going through a growing up phase where they have to have more verification of their "merchants" as it were.
I'd wait on what their alternate verification methods are shown to be, but I wouldn't expect to just get away with the status quo. They're going to eventually demand information you won't be comfortable handing over, but will be required to in order to keep making money from them.
Not long ago parents took images of their child that had a rash in their loin area and sent to their pediatrician. Google auto scan tagged as child porn and reported the parents to the authorities. The fact of the matter is that theses photos were not shared and were in private only signature so some one at Google literally turned those private medical photos into CP and shared them. The situation was eventually resolved, However the parents and the child are now marked for life and can't be fixed. The doctor prescribed an antibiotic salve and that solved the problem. The problem is that if you use a instant polaroid and gave the image their doctor the problem would never have occurred. People in the past took photos to diagnose medical conditions.
Please do not provide personal ID info with patreon, paypal, mastercard, e.t.c. They obviously have very bad intentions that go far beyond fraud protection.
I hope you find a different more credible service, however of late people keep asking me which is the best privacy option and i cant' really suggest one that even i trust entirely and i've been a tech for decades.
