paypal alternatives
I have heard recent news about PayPal "changing their policies" and "modifying their TOS to punish adult artists". I don't know how big a deal it is! PayPal has been shutting down artists and stealing from them for 20 years. They will still be doing it 20 years from now. Adult artists have always been against their TOS. I am lucky that nothing bad has happened to me yet! But, it is good to be prepared for it.
As of this morning, I should be able to receive payments through PayPal, commiss.io, Square, Google Pay, and Venmo (althoughVenmo is Venmo and Square are US only.) ...This does not technically fix anything, because these other services also prohibit "adult oriented products or services" -- but, it is a little band-aid fix in case something goes wrong.
A lot of other artists deal with this sort of thing too! If you have any other recommendations or anecdotes I'd love to hear them. I am not trying to change the world, I just want to stay out of trouble.

Did PayPal make a recent announcement for it?
This isn't baseless paranoia about like "gosh what if some day PayPal decides only democrats can have bank accounts," this is the more practical concern that 10% of the furry artists I watch on FA have already been banned from paypal at the time of this journal. I'm lucky it hasn't happened to me yet, but it's coming some day
I was like "Yes, yes, okay, misinformation, whatever, I don't care about that. ...Isn't there any news about the $2,500 fine for adult materials!?" It was VERY hard to find, and mostly just people griping on random forums. ...I guess it's not like Fox News is going to run a story about MacroFurry42069's PayPal being suspended for commissioning their 800-foot tall elephantsona taking the burk dubai up their ass.
In the end I'll keep on using paypal. I get commissioned like once per year or less, and I always make sure to invoice the commissioner so they can't put in a note that could be interpreted by paypal, so I don't think I'll be in any danger
It's the same philosophy behind why I'm no longer "on FA", now I'm just "on the internet" and I upload to 10 different sites! (11 now, with Artconomy...)
Stripe has been discussed the most, in past however their primary business is with people selling stuff through their own websites and then they implement stripe in there by themselves. I think they updated to also have stuff like invoicing, but it's still definitely a payment processing solution for companies with website, where paypal is also money transfers between individuals using just an email.
Most apps and services are country specific, most likely because doing banking business internationally is expensive nightmare with tons of legistelations and laws around it, even Google hasn't enabled money transfers outside US, only allows installing cards as NFC payment. Just let that sink in: Google hasn't managed to do this.
We do have IBAN here in europe so you can do native bank transfers between countries, but of course US isn't part of that.
I guess I'll find out the first time I try to use one of them...
A processing fee will be taken out depending on if your customer uses a debit or credit card.
