Kathmandu, where are you?

So, what has been happening in the life of ol' Kathmandu here the last month or so? well, remember the commercial and the meme, "I've fallen and I can't get up?" I've been livin' the dream baby... or nightmare more like it. The day before Thanksgiving I was at work and due to being shorthanded I was out in the shop rebuilding hydraulic cylinders instead of being in my office like a good supervisor should. Anyway, the cylinder I was working on slipped out of the vise it was in. In desperation I grabbed for something to catch my balance and it was the handle to the vise and I opened it dumping this large, heavy cylinder onto the floor and myself as well. The concrete floor had absolutely no give at all but my hip did. In fact it broke the ball clean off the top of my femur just about where the ligament attaches. Long story short I spent the entire Thanksgiving weekend in the hospital. I had indeed fallen and couldn't get up. They operated and inserted some rather large rods and bolts. I think I qualify as a cyborg now and I'll never pass a metal detector at the airport again. My recovery has been rough due to injuries to my knee and wrist making it seriously painful to put any weight on my leg. In the last few days it has gotten somewhat better as I've gone from crutches to a walker to a cane to get around although I am still limping around quite gingerly. Got the stitches pulled Tuesday and the doc is pleased with my progress so far. I'm off work for a while it looks like. I'd rather be at work to be honest as I really can't do anything during this time off. I can't win. I can't even concentrate well enough to read.

My neighbor's son, speak of living the dream, finally got his wish and was declared 100% disabled -- and did exactly what I outlined above. He lived less than 18 months. No thanks!
And reading! I've read so much the past dew years. I'm over 65 and technically retired. I still don't have time for all the stuff I want to do.
