Yes, the bit about derivative works is overkill. That's either going to be impossible to enforce, use some sort of verification (unlikely but possible) that will just bog down the site in the long run, or rely on hearsay which will devolve into a witch hunt faster than you can say "Fender the Ferret." Out of the three, my money is unfortunately on the last one... Which by itself is just one more reason to work towards finally saying goodbye to this site. It's been a good run.

It’s bexause of the fact that those AI inages outright lift and pool from existing art on the internet that they are treating them the same as art thefts.
They’ve seen way too many that still have warped signatures or watermarks in them as well. :)

Putting a prompt into a line over and over and over again with endless flaws to pick at, is far from the same as you busting your ass on a piece for days at a time and finally managing to get something you like, with maybe one anatomy flaw.

It's not using other people's art as raw material. The AI has just "noticed" that a lot of times pictures are supposed to have a little squiggle at the bottom corner so it puts one there. It doesn't photobash or collage.

Ai generated "art" is done by scraping the the hard work of real artists. Ai doesn't "notice" anything that isn't fed to it. It actively "learns" by cannibalizing the creations of people without permission, and often against their will. Not only are those artists being exploited, but now they run the very real risk of losing their livelihoods to a string of code.

So yeah, instead of FA staff attempting to litigate "how much" ai use in one image is acceptable time and time again, I do feel it's a far wiser and more efficient choice to simply ban it unilaterally.

I'm really not sure how different a generated back-ground and something like a gradient are, so this might be a case of throwing the baby out with the bath-water with a strict exclusion. I think it's being done in good faith to protect artists from having their work ripped-off, which is already plaguing places like Pixiv and Artstation.

I started learning to draw about 4 months ago, also thanks to you and your cool arts. I'm not good at backgrounds, but I also want to show a beautiful art to others. I will simply ignore this prohibition and continue my studies.
