2022 music?
Howdy furries, it's time for the 5th annual music journal because why stop at 4 years in a row. What were y'all listening to in 2022? Full albums that came out in 2022, specific songs, whatever you wanna throw in here! (I'll gradually check out everything but I may be bad at replying!!)
Vylet Pony - can opener's notebook: fish whisperer (Fave: Telephone)
I love Vylet Pony's vocals so much. Generally a much more subdued and chill album than Cutiemarks, it's been very pleasant to draw things with this on in the background. (also coming out in a week is her new album Carousel and the track Constellation Cradle on it is so fucking good aaa)
June LaLonde - Headjack (Fave: Hello)
Always a fan of June LaLonde's stuff, but this one in particular is really hitting my personal taste and is my favorite since Floating Rooms
Patricia Taxxon - Agnes & Hilda (Fave: I'll Be)
Big fan of I'll Be and its lines like "my sphexish tiny heart will beat", and By Greg Rutkowski is a good bit. Mildly NSFW album art (skimpy clothing on a furry)
kennyoung - Parasocial
Found Kennyoung last year from this being shared and I really love the sound (the lyrics are only a liiitle relatable, most people are cool 2 me)
"lawyerdog do you only listen to furry music" no!!! shut up! I also got into a couple new artists in 2022 of Rare Americans... who have furry music videos... and Bentley Jones... who I got into because of Silver the hedgehog's theme...
okay fine i only listen to furry music you caught me

Natural Brown Prom Queen by Sudan Archives is good, although it’s kinda long so not always full album listening. Selfish Soul is my favorite track on it.
Aethiopes by Billy Woods is good, he released more than one album last year and that was my fav of them. The Doldrums is imo the best track. I won’t lie if you’re not into experimental hip hop you won’t like it lol
Sorry if you don’t like any of that lol my musical tastes don’t gel well with many furries
Natural Brown Prom Queen is pretty cool, really lovin' the violin especially on Selfish Soul!

A lot more calm and introspective than his previous works, the pandemic seemed to hit him hard and two songs on this album are quite clearly dedicated to his pet rats (Euthanasia, Willard!)
I love his writing and he's got an impressive emotional range.
I also got a lot more into ambient, specifically em:t releases... Managed to grasp a couple of the old cds from Discogs marketplace. gas0095 is a good starting point in case you wanna give it a listen! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzkfr_zv5aM
I'm diggin' gas0095, very pleasant to listen to!
The Tunic OST. The Tunic OST is legendary. Incredible. Lifeformed did it again. Instant classic. Atmospheric yet distinct and memorable. Long as fuck. Beautiful. :]
I still have your last year's post bookmarked. I think I listened to one of the albums.....? It's been a whole year, and I didn't get around to the whole thing? Oops! Gotta kick that into gear. I love the vimes music year round up posts. Happy new year!
Last Dinosaurs is some good chill music, I can dig it.
I skipped playing Tunic, but listening to the OST now it just like perfectly nails that vibe of exploring a strange, beautiful, haunting world. great stuff!
(also heck yeah on Vylet Pony being pretty lit)
DEATHFAME by Quelle Chris is some good stuff, particularly enjoying Alive Ain’t Always Living and Deathfame
Nisemono is a fun one, my fave track on there is Holy Hell
As you can probably tell my tastes cleave kind of dark, but I will second Agnes & Hilda as a fave! Up there as one of my favourite things Patty has put out along with The Flowers of Robert Mapplethorpe and Doraemon.
As for old music I got into this past year, I really got into the discographies of quite a few bands. Opeth, Cave In, maudlin of the Well, Siouxsie & The Banshees, and The Dillinger Escape Plan, just to name a few. The Mars Volta was one artist I kept coming back to in particular. I don't know what it is, but there's nothing that sounds quite like em.
But yeah, that's a not-so-brief summary of some of the things I listened to over the past year.
