3 Year Species Anniversary Questionnaire Re-Archival
2 years ago
Hello! On February 18th of 2022, I hosted a Synth Species Questionnaire asking members of the community various traits about themselves in a google doc of questions, in a curious venture to see the numbers on who is part of this little group of robots we call Synths. The results were great, and satisfying to me and hopefully other nerdy sorts alike!
The results were only shared on my now defunct Twitter account, but the data is not lost! Below is a re-upload of that data, including the thoughts I had on them in those posts. Enjoy!

Note; the data below is from 2022 answers, and may no longer prove accurate if redone in the current time
After a few days of sorting data, the Synth Species Questionnaire information is read up on and ready to review.
This is a thread of the results, and my brief thoughts on them! Again, thank you to anyone who participated!
Interest and Participation
1. First Discovery
A large majority found them randomly either by browsing galleries or finding people with their own characters, while most others were told about them or sought out other robotics.
Noting, a large amount of "Other" responses mentioned Vader's initial factsheet!
2. Discovery Time
Almost 2/3rds of the community found them over 2 years ago, half of that being there when they first released!
Surprisingly few people only found them relatively recently, with only *2 people* having newly discovered them within this month!
3. Initial Thoughts - Multiple Choice
A very large majority of people wanted to quickly see more Synths after learning about them, followed closely by also wanting their own character!
The Lore also making a strong impression, wanting to be understood by over half the entries!
4. Coming across the content
Most seeing Synth content likely from the Synth Discord they partake in, it's unsurprising a community focused around it would see it the most.
A bit of margin for FA, I hope those people use the SRG!
Noting, 4 "Other" answers were VRChat!
5. Synth Communities
Most joining the Discord since it's arguably the most popular social platform in general, although a surprising minority joining the Telegram!
Others having personal Synth friend groups, private communities of their own, or none at all!
6. Interactivity
Pretty expectedly a linear graph with a slight bias for mostly never, still a steady amount of people that interact somewhat frequently to all the time!
Design and Characters
7. When you Went Synth
A fairly diverse interest! Besides the people who didn't make any characters at all, a slight majority made characters as soon as they learned of them, with a large gap between the people taking a couple months and taking over a year!
8. How Many Synths
Almost making a complete majority, most people have made 1 Synth character! With a quarter of the entries making up to 2 or More, people like having their roster diverse of synthetics!
9. Synth as your Primary
Despite the large amount of people having made Synth characters, the amount who would consider them their main characters is almost inverted!
10. Your first Synths reference
Interestingly enough, despite a lot of people claiming to have made Synth characters, more people don't have any reference material for them!
Most use the free bases in some way, Refsheets are still fairly frequent, but very few Adoptables!
11. Recognizable Aspect
Most see reptilian design as core to Synths, most others by the more specific shape of their head! Followed by those is the split between the plating and the screen!
Noting, 4 "Other" answers said "everything", which was against the point of the question!
12. Core of the Concept
An overwhelming majority considering the open-sourced nature of Synth design to be important for them as a whole, followed relatively closely only by the fluid genders they represent!
The free bases and utopian lore setting sharing an almost even split!
SynthRevoGallery Familiarity
13. SynthRevoGallery Interest
Almost 2/3rds opting out of the SRG questions! It's sad to me, but I suppose not everyone might be interested in using Furaffinity or answering questions about something they don't know about!
SRG Questions
14. SRG Discovery
For those who did opt in, most found the SRG through the form itself! Most others from the Synth Species website link, some coming from Vader's retweets of my SRG posts, and even few even from my Discord bio!
15. SRG Browse Rating
The SRG is available to all audiences because of FA's innate age gate!
Most seeing the SRG in NSFW, with about a quarter viewing either as a Minor or without an FA account!
16. SRG Use Case
A majority using the SRG for generally viewing Synth art, and a split between specifically discovering Synth characters and getting inspiration for their own!
Few use it for finding new artists, I suggest you do!
Noting, "Other" votes said mixes of the above!
17. SRG Frequency
Most almost never check the SRG, likely only looking it when it's mentioned.
A bit of a bumpy decline for more frequent checks, with a whole 5 people (one being myself) checking multiple times daily!
18. SRG Sharing
Most don't mention the SRG likely because most learned about it in this very form, those who were familiar with it have talked about it mostly a couple times at best.
Some sharing it somewhat frequently, with a few (again, one myself) sharing it all they can!
Demographic
19. Age Demographic
Despite the more narrow margin, a lot of entries are only 18 to 20!
A majority ranging in their Early 20s, there's a gradually lower amount of ages above them.
20. Self Identification
What's usually a standard in most Furry polls, a majority of entries identify as Male.
Although there's what I believe to be more Genderfluid individuals than the average, which makes sense for Synths in particular due to their modular design!
21. Transgender Identification
With Synths in lore discovering their own gender within their lifetime, I was curious to see how that reflected on the community!
Although unsurprising to see Trans individuals being a minority, I think there's a bit more than average than others!
22. Sexual Preference
Again something that's usually expected in Furry polls, most state their preference to be Bisexual or Pansexual. Not much to comment on here, fairly standard!
23. Country of Residence (Heat map, Numerical)
Three strikes for expected answers, most entries are from the US! Aside from the overwhelming majority, the Synth community has a diverse ranging from places like Poland, Argentina, and Mexico!
