Putees were fun. I have several sets of the Swiss leather buckle gaiters I use now.

Apart from that, I did actually find this unexpectedly interesting. I cannot conceive when I might need the knowledge, but at least I can dream of encountering a freak puttee-tying emergency in the local supermarket and becoming the hero of the hour.

I remember when you had Asharu doing the psa on leg wrapping. Been a long while. I used to use the US canvas gaiters from WW2 and some sturdy shoes on hunts in Texas in the 1980s. Was cheaper than hunting boots. Surplus gaiters were a couple of bucks a pair.

ok, weird but interesting. I know a lot about the American army in WWI and WWII, not so much about the Japanese.
but I think I'd prefer just plain gaiters if I had a choice. I can see how this would come in handy in a pinch, however.
