Micro May 2023 Retro

Meowdy folks!
At the end of a month of stories, I wanted to take some time and just share my thoughts and feelings about what I did this month with these stories.
I know I'm a pretty new writer, but I like to take time to reflect on my experiences so I can keep moving forward and growing as both a writer and a person.
Overall, I'm really blown away by all the love and support these little short stories have gotten. I've always been a fan of micro and shrinking stories and I'm really glad people have loved my own contributions to that space. I've always had a desire to create but have struggled to find a medium I felt comfortable with, but this had overall been a huge boost to my own self confidence.
The month wasn't easy by any means. But I managed to push through thanks in no "small" part to comments, messages I received, and friends I made along the way.
The complete gallery of works can be found right here for your convenience.
But without further ado...

My Top 5
In no particular order, these are my top five stories I wrote this month. There were definitely a few stories that were harder to write, but for one reason or another, I'm personally attached to these stories. For any reason from specific kinks to just being a plan fun concept to write. If there's any up here that are sequels, I definitely want to put the others up here, but wanted to leave space for variety...
1) Revenge
The 2nd sequel to "Temporary" and showing an alternate path forward (vs "Sports")
I had a blast with this one. I enjoy the concept of heightened senses for micros so this one was a dive into scent and playing with the ideas of dirty vs clean. I just had a fun time with this one, and I kind of want to write a longer story about these two characters coming to terms with themselves and growing together in their very mix-matched relationship.
2) Science
If it wasn't obvious, I heavily enjoy clothing in shrinking/growing stories. The idea of a micro growing back up into his oversized clothing was really fun for me
3) Wealthy
A good power play is key to a good shrinking story to me. Rich people and butlers are a great setting here. It also plays with the idea of a very gentle and caring macro that still puts the micro through the wringer for his own good. Plus, the stag in may or may not have been heavily inspired by a new friend of mine... Not that he'll see this of course. Unless...
4) Reversal
I wrote a few self indulgent stories starring my main fursonas. This story was my favorite of them. It was also the first time I explored the "micro in charge" during the month. It's a great way to mess with the power play of size changing.
Honorable mention to Entrapment, it was a hard choice to put this above that.
5) Accident
A sequel I adored making. This couple may have been my favorite of the month. I also am pretty happy with how I used the key word "accident" as a story device other than just growing/shrinking accidentally. It also just was very sweet and I could see myself writing more about them in the future.
Lessons Learned
1) Comments and favorites made me feel very damn good. The flutters I got in my chest seeing the comment notification and realizing someone liked my story enough to actually post a comment. They helped me keep my motivation going to surpass my expectations (of "maybe 15-20 of them" I got through all 31)
2) Stories don't need to be perfect. One of my conditions here was to post without any real editing. Each story went from idea -> draft on the day of posting. I didn't have the time to edit these super carefully. I'm sure some of them would have been better if I had more time, but sometimes, posting a story even if it's not perfect is better than not posting.
3) I don't have to absolutely love a given story to make it something someone will enjoy. There were a few stories I didn't feel as confident in when I posted them, but I posted them anyways, only for someone to tell me it was one of their favorites so far. I tend to get in my own head, and this is just a reminder to be more confident in my work.
What's Next?
A few days at least of a break! I want to continue writing as well as get back to learning how to draw, but I need to relax too.
If anything, my drive to create is stronger than ever, but I need to make sure I don't burn myself out.
I have a few stories that were in progress before the month started that I want to get out soon, namely:
- Some inanimate clothing TF stories
- The finale to the Tiger Wizard's Hubris that I just didn't have time to make this month
- More shrinking stuff for sure!
Also... Tears of the Kingdom came out... I have gotten to play almost none of it...
FA+

I've thought about commissions, and it's something I'll probably do in the future if only to fund me buying more art, but I'd have to think a lot about things like pricing, timing, etc. I work a full time software dev job so it's something I'd want to make sure I don't overload myself by taking commissions.
