I sometimes give funds to favorite artists in need, but limited amounts. I've signed up on several Patreons too. One artist didn't appreciate me posting lighthearted comments, literally told me to STFU. So left him to his own devices.

Just what I said. People came to me with these hard luck stories. Close friends for some time. All they needed was a loan for a short time.

Sure, I can find the wherewithal to loan you the money.

One year passes....then two...then three...I ask about it, and they say, "What loan?"

It just pisses me off when people ask for a loan, promise to pay it back, then disappear.

And these are close friends, too. Apparently money means more to them than friendship.

I've been burned like this before, too. It really sucks, but I've come to see any money I lend out anymore as a gift more than a loan. Yes, I want them to pay me back, but I will equally expect them not to. If I am comfortable parting with a given amount of money under that presumption, then I will "loan" the money.
