There are three "worlds" that Shema and Shameen inhabit together. Other characters accompany them, as appropriate.

Deal With a Demon

The original world I settled on, strongly influenced by Sierra Online's video game, Quest for Glory II: Trials by Fire

Shema - A middle-aged female Katta who co-owns The Katta's Tail Inn along with her husband. Infertile and lonely, she chances upon a magical scroll that she believes will permit her to bear children, but when a demon answers her plea, everything goes awry. Now she bears a terrible secret that would certainly see she and her husband exiled from their beloved city of Shapier, but only one other person knows the truth: the human woman whose soul was replaced by the hapless Katta's.

Shameen - Male Katta, married to Shema. Focusing his energy on the business of running their inn, he is capable, loving, and kind, but his appetite for knowledge and dreams of travel means that he is blind to his wife's emotional turmoil. Unknown to Shameen, he is the focal point of Shema's quiet terror of being discovered, as she cannot bear the thought of her criminal selfishness, or its result, becoming known to him.

Chaaya - A human woman in her early twenties. Homeless and ill, she was sleeping in an alley against a nondescript apartment building, when she woke up to find herself very much changed...
