I have to say that the furry fandom is the only place I've heard people repeatedly question their artistic worth if someone's not ripping them off.

Yeah, deep down inside, we're all attention whores who want the vindication of knowing that people look at our art. For some of us, it's really not that deep, though. I have to say that I would wonder to what extent I would care if someone was. It's not like I make any money off my hobby, and it's something I enjoy. I never figured out what the big deal was about e234 or whatever it was, I suppose it would mean more if I were making money off it, but knowing how hard it is to keep personal ownership over something that is on the Internet, I guess I couldn't get that worked up about it.

Also, I imagine that the furry fandom is one of the few places where people question their artistic worth if people aren't spankin' it to their pics.

Most of the people who were stolen were really big names, people who when you say them everyone knows. And if they don't know most likely haven't been really even remotely into the fan base. Some artists are just as important but deeper under the surface of the fan base.

So then I wonder who did the collecting and what their criteria was. I would take the less appreciated artists work and put that up. For what it's worth, I would never know if anyone had stolen my work and I couldn't care. I think this journal was more about the ironic statement of others in the journals of the big name artists talking about it saying things like "I wish my art would get stolen." Which I found funny and thought I'd share, but I guess didn't translate well. Next time I'll put sarcasm tags around it.

You HAVE to be something that is separated from the fans and above and or away from the monster of popularity.

If you were the most popular artist in furry what would that mean? would you stop growing? Would you stop reaching?

I don't think popularity drives truly great artists--Just the ones posting on forums like this and CA and DA. You can be unpopular and under-appreciated, without a shred of dignity or worth attributed to your works, but still be able to produce something you enjoy and something that makes you happy. How many watchers you have does not equal how good your art is--in many cases it is how mainstream your art is that equates your popularity...

Though on this site, it's how many dick-shitting cock nipples herms you can crank out in a week.


For me, I really try to put a message into my art, which is why I don't get a lot of play here. After all, this is primarily a site for porn. I just enjoy sharing a common hobby with people who might enjoy the work that I do, and can enjoy some myself.

There's only one furry chan I'm aware of, and it sucks horribly. Gelbooru is pretty cool, but their niche is anime art. Furry is slightly tolerated and western art is not.

But if it matters I've saved plenty of your works to my personal HD for perusal if FA ever dies.

If it's the chan I think you're referring to, I agree, there's not a whole lot of participation in there. I think it was just a way to cover for FA not having a search feature because most of the work on there was FA stuff.

If you know which artists got ripped, take a look at their homepages, and compare their total number of submissions compared to the number of ones that are pornographic.

I'd venture to guess that a large proportion of their work, the stuff they're known for, is adult. They got ripped by a porn site. If your work isn't in there, it's because you're not posting enough porn to get noticed by the kind of people who comb the interbutts for that sort of material.

Should you strive to become a "Notorious Pornographer", as I call it, I'm sure you'll receive your "validation" as an artist soon enough :)

And I'd say true fans should include the ones who watch closely enough to read one's journals and respond to them more than once in a blue moon (I'd count it as impressive that Kami commented). Especially those who have hundreds of people on their own watchlists.

And I did. I've hit the big time for sure when big names like that make comments on my journal. I will say this. I'm more concerned about the fans that I have than the people that tie one off to my work. I've wanted to put out more pornographic stuff, but vag and cocks elude me. ;)
