does anybody still WANT bluesky invitations?
from my experience, at this point, probably not, since I already failed to give them away on twitter and tumblr weeks ago. In fact one person on tumblr requested one but never used it. I have five at the moment, and past evidence suggests I will continue to be granted more.
bluesky is the site that is similar to twitter except users cannot send direct messages or post gifs, OR sign up for it without being let in, and your personal url ends up having too many periods in it, like https://bsky.app/profile/bimshwel.bsky.social , which all seem rather annoying but it was presented as desirable for a while there.

i haven't heard a thing about threads for a hot minute either
A year later, Twitter (though some call it 'X') is still around, but now it's "Masto-WHAT?"
I expect the same will eventually happen to Bluesky.
You say this is another Twitter alternative? Nah, I would never use that.
I still like mastodon better, but I had to use that for a few years to no longer feel like I was wasting time.
I do not think requiring invitations and making pages invisible to the uninvited is in bluesky's favor. If it ever was, it isn't now. I still remember nabyn, and also that i never got let into it.
I often forget how much advertising many such services (including this one) are saturated with because I generally browse them using standard internet browsers with advertisement blocking extensions rather than the annoying mobile APPs that they would prefer I use. I know youtube and instagram are especially unbearable about that and also constantly trying to stop ad-blockers from functioning.
I can agree to that, social anything has never been my thing either. I made an exception for Bsky precisely because it seems kind of niche. And I appreciate immensely that it doesn't push stuff onto me. My Lady is active on mainstream social media and oh my goodness, both the amount and the content of the advertisement there easily becomes absurd.
I've been on the fence about joining Twitter for the longest time. But I kept seeing people using the word "cesspool" to describe it. Really, almost more frequently than its current-official name "X" is used. So I took a hint.
When this alternative appeared, I was quick to secure myself a place there. Now what remains is to figure out what to do next... Most thankfully though, Bluesky leaves me in peace in the meantime and doesn't shove stuff in my face that I don't want to see.
