Oh shit really? Huh... I'll have to apologize to my baby cousin at some point for that, had a whole argument about that (granted, it was when she was 3 and I thought she'd cracked it open when it was already broken, and she was being a shit in the rain and not putting her shoes on... But still).

but yeah we made a pumpkin pie from scratch out of a regular big-ass pumpkin someone gave away after use as a decoration. it was of course more on the savory/squash-like side than fruity or sweet, but like, a pumpkin pie is really more milk and sugar and eggs than pumpkin to begin with, it turns out, and just being a little less sweet certainly didn't ruin it entirely. it reminds me of a good bread pudding. like i'd still RECOMMEND a sugar pumpkin if you want a really tasty sweet pie, but if you have plain pumpkins, you can still use them for a pie instead of throwing them out.

Well shit.. now I kinda want to try making one at some point. Dude, a little more savory pumpkin pie sounds kinda good really.

My husband and I went to a pumpkin patch and got two jack o lantern pumpkins, carved them, took pictures, and then I made a pie out of them.
