Happy New Year!
2024 isn’t even 11 hours old as of this post, and it hasn’t gone well already. Well, not in the circumstances I had hoped, at least. On the 27th, my fiancée and I went with our two kids to Disneyland Paris for a short break, hoping to return on the 30th in time for New Years Eve. However, the folks at Eurostar had other ideas as a flooding caused the entire train network to be down, meaning that we were stranded in Paris at the busiest time of the year. To put it short, tensions and anxiety had been running high.
After searching for flights that went over the place, with ridiculous waiting times and destinations (in one case, Paris CDG to Athens then to Edinburgh and finally in London in a 26 hour round trip), even considering getting to Calais as walk in passengers in a five hour train journey, we settled on a night bus on New Years Eve to get to London.
One crappy hotel room in Paris, a night bus, delayed ferries and choppy waters, we’re finally home, 36 hours after we should have been. I’m tired, I’m in my bed and plan on not leaving for the next week or so.
Happy New Year 2024, everybody!
