We're Back! - A 2023 Reflection and What's in Store for 2...
Happy New Year! 2024 is finally upon us and I'm excited to get back to work. This one's going to be long so bear with me.
To briefly reflect, 2023 wasn't the best for my partner and I. It was marred with a sudden move, rocky finances, a crappy day job, way more sick days than usual, and uncertainty. Having to juggle all of these issues, it left me with a growing sense of pessimissim, fear of failure, and a constant stream of disappointment after disappointment. I was mentally torn and unable to work on the things I wanted/needed to do. While I was able to regain creative footing again at the end of October, some of these issues continued to linger throughout the end of the year.
So now what?
For starters, I want to give myself time to breathe in 2024. A typical week during 2023 kind of looked like this:
I worked a day job 40 hours a week. (M-F)
I did have a weekend. But that was mostly used to draw, post things and run errands.
I didn't give myself any time off and it left me mentally exhausted. My overall health tanked because of this. Managing a better work schedule will be at the forefront of my priorities this year.
What else can you expect from me this year?
1.) I will be finishing the rest of my WIPs. I put a good dent in it since late October, but there's still a lot to finish (including the last commission in my queue).
2.) Creating a manageable workflow. I'm now in a better mental space to find a part-time day job while giving myself room to freelance (and to relax).
3.) I want to create a small list of characters that I would love to draw constantly. Anchors if you will so I'm not just constantly creating new characters on the fly.
4.) Expanding my drawing capabilities. I want to draw more humans, non-furry characters, backgrounds, and the like.
5.) I would also like to post a bit more regularly, but in a way that isn't going to stress me out.
6.) A project or two by the end of the year? I don't know. Let's take a step at a time and see how doable this is!
I will be posting some art that I worked on during the holiday break in the coming weeks as well. Here's to a great 2024!
