Only a year? You've made great progress!
I wonder though, how often were you drawing during that time? In my experience, when I started I was really bad so wasn't as motivated to draw as much as I am now, so I didn't improve that quickly.
And how has posting to FA affected your experience of drawing? It's given me a lot more motivation to see the funny internet numbers tick up, and I met a lot of nice people.

I was drawing pretty often, atleast sketching once every other day or everyday at times. Posting on FA has shown that there are people who enjoy my work, and it motivates me to continue drawing which is what i love :3
