[Personal] January 2024 Update
Part 2 to the New Year Updates: The Personal Shit. If you want a more formal update, check out the General update.
I glossed over this in the General post, but the new year was Rough. We split up with our long distance partner of 4 years between christmas and new year, and have been trying to come to terms with that through this month. We've been okay, keeping busy and keeping ourself safe, but haven't done much outside of the daily doodles.
There's been a lot of big changes in the system since the breakup, but mostly positive ones. Our chronic pain and fatigue have gotten notably more manageable, too, though that doesn't mean we're Back To Normal. We can go on 5-10 minute walks every other day or so with our crutches. Our daily pain is down to about a 5 from a 7! that might not sound like much, but it's a big difference. Our physio goal last year was two 10 minute walks a day, and we're still a way off of that, but we're much closer than we were even two months ago now.
We've been getting into knitting, journaling, and tarot. It's been really fun! We were gifted some watercolour related stuff for Christmas, too, so we're hoping to learn how to do that properly soon! I'm planning on leaning more into physical crafts in addition to our digital art - I think it'll be good for us. A couple additional goals this year are to make a poetry zine, even if it's just for us, and to, just, make more things in general. To go see more art at the galleries in our city, to put art on our walls, to exist off of our computer more. We were a computing student for years, and being in a long distance relationship - and yknow, in crippling pain all day - had us at our computer a Lot, and I think now's a good time to get away from all that a bit. Maybe we'll even re-attempt the artist's way - we copped out at the week of deprivation, but like, maybe we're in a better space for that now.
Mostly though, we want to be seen Trying to do things - to do them badly. Post the bad art so we can get better at making the art that doesn't suck and realise that hey, maybe our art didn't actually suck that bad in the first place. Get out of our head a bit, yknow? We're kind of in our, "okay, i need to take the chance to be a better person after all of this" era. Like yeah, shit Sucks, but might as well grow from it.
We also start CBT at the end of the month for anxiety and agoraphobia, so we'll see how that goes! Fingers crossed it isn't super miserable.
