Y'okay, far more mature take on this now.
Sometimes, giving up on people you call friends can be hard, especially if you've known them for a long time. At some point you have to cut losses and just drop contact. It's not a bad thing to hold out hope, but sometimes people just lose interest in being around you, and that's okay. You just have to make the final step to break off from your friends sometimes.
