Coming upload schedule change experimentation
2 years ago
Hey! Look I know I've sent a lot of journals but this one is gonna be quite important! It's about a coming experimentation in schedule changes that I am gonna start with the up and coming comic uploads and I wanted to give you folks a heads up!
Now that I have my own website I do wanna have it sorta be the center of all the comicking that I do, and now that I have postybirb means i can set up uploads that will go on whilst I tend to life, work, school (eventually an overwhelming amount of job) better! So here is what I am gonna try to do for the forseeable future in regards to when I upload comics on the internet.
1) Patrons always get the earliest access to the comics, of course. They see the comic as soon as it's done! Would be unfair to undermine that so they will always see the comic before it goes online anywhere
2) I will upload the comic on the Comic site, https://thelonghikecomic.com/, at the time I always do, about 8:00am mountain time (11am server time). So if you wanna see the comic first thing then it'll be there!
3) I will upload the comic here at 3PM western time (6PM server time)
I don't know if this will change much! But a lot of the folks I talked to about making a webcomic site recommended I upload the comic there first and to me that makes a lot of sense! The reason for the afternoon is to make sure that postybirb is on and can do it's thing even if I am away doing life or job related matters!
the alternative of course is to just upload it all at the same time across the board
Which if I or you guys are not a fan of the above upload schedule would work fine for me too. 8AM mountain time across the board
But hey let me know what you think! I make these journals to try and communicate as much as possible with folks so if you don't like that upload schedule let me know so I can take it into account. If enough folks are strongly against it then I would be happy to change the schedule to make you folks comfy

FA+

setting everything up with your shiny new site, the Patreon and the Postybirb!
I must preamble everything by once again confessing that I only know that I know nothing,
but here are my thoughts:
The way I see it, the only reason there can be for binding your updates to a specific time
is if you are trying to hit the most traffic-intensive time for those platforms that have
an equivalent to FA's Browse feature, i.e. a big, ever-scrolling timeline of updates,
so that more people will Like, Subscribe and Hit That Bell Button.
The people who know of your site will be checking it every morning, anyway, probably,
and the best thing you can do for them is to give them some form of a notification,
like a mailing list, or reply on the Inbox on gallery sites like this one.
The purpose of Patreon is to partition the perusing public into the paying Patricians and the penniless Plebes,
and torture the latter with long anticipation times and missed exclusives to nudge them into pitching in.
With that in mind, the longest you take to upload the comic to the free access sites, the better.
For example, you give the Patrons their new page at the end of each week,
but the rest get their reduced and neutered update at the end of each month.
But then, this conflicts with the purpose of increasing exposure by more frequent updates.
If you like madness and delirium, you can run too concurrent schedules:
one for Patreon, and another, lagging one, for the poor people –
that way the Patrons will get their reliable quality service,
and the other schedule will help lure in as many
gawkers from the streets of Social Media Town
as possible.
