Werepix Chronicles Announement

General
So after a bit of deliberation I’ve decided to make a quick little announcement. I’m sure everyone’s noticed that my uploads have slowed considerably. And that’s because I’m drawing way less than normal to the extent on many days so far this year the only thing I draw is the pokemon redraw thing. And I’m reasonably sure that my Werepix Chronicles is largely responsible. Reflecting on it, a large part of the problem is effectively scope creep. When I first started doing Werepix the scope was originally do something similar to Diary of a Transformee, a comic I did with a text aside. The first Werepix chapter was then effectively just a 6000 word transformation story accompanied by images.
The second part (Night Out) is much the same with a very limited scope. Part 3 (BDH) did have an expanded scope as it was the first time the main character actually got into a real fight and spends as much time on just a single fight as the other two segments had in total and even then it was a somewhat truncated fight. Around halfway through part four (The Message) I had actually figured out where I wanted to take the comic and so the scope started to go up. Part 5 (A True Gift) mostly suffered from the fact that the comic required crowds, which I sucked at drawing. But even then it was starting to get to the point where the limitation of the way I was doing the comic was holding the thing back a bit.
Part 6 (Attrition) really shows this that the format I’m doing this comic is really straining against the story I’m trying to tell. That the reason there is the issue of panel creep is that I’m trying to tell a story and there is simply way too much going on than can be properly conveyed in 200 words/page. So instead I’m trying to tell the story far more with the images and getting frustrated that I’m trying to do so much more with the images without increasing the time I’m spending on them. Like Part 6 takes place over 35 pages. But just compare how much is going on in Part 6 to what happened in parts 1 or 2.
And Part 7 will have an even larger scope as I’m trying to convey a story that takes place in 40 pages but has 15 different characters, a few pages actually having all of them in one place. And trying to convey all of that information with being limited to have the text and the entire story condensed to around 8000 words means that the there is a lot of heavy lifting in drawings I’m trying to keep at 2-3 hours/page, which is what’s stressing/frustrating me so much. And parts 8, 10 and 11 are going to be under similar constraints, of trying to compress a story that’s expanded beyond what the format allows.
So what I’m going to do is instead of condensing the story or reducing the scope of that story, I’m going to instead shift to making it a legitimate comic format. Meaning text and dialog conveyed in the pages themselves and then just stop caring about how many pages a particular chapter will have. This will slow down the pacing considerably (the entire story was slated to be done around March 2026. But this will allow me to not have to stress out on the images having to carry so much story in a single image and will allow me to further develop come characters since I’ll have the time to do so. However, as this will require me to start part 7 over from the start, once Part 6 has finished the comic will be going on a slight hiatus. Not sure how long of a hiatus, it’ll be until I get the hang of the new work flow and also if I can get my output back up.
Part 7 will start posting once I get to the point of either knowing I can maintain a 1-2 page output/week with a bit of a buffer or until I’ve gotten enough done that I can run it without interruption for the entirety of part 7.
