Now that I'm pressed for bandwidth in the World of Dial-Up, I can see that one of the things slowing down the user's experience of FA is all the comment content, mostly the icons. I love everybody's icons, but together they form a great tapestry of lag, particularly on very popular pieces. Maybe a grease monkey script to put it all behind a tag?

You've probably figured this out by now (or found such a script), but - there's a setting under FA's "Site Settings" (in the Control Panel) to disable user avatars and show a little stock icon instead. It might help.

...Oh, hey, you're right. Hot damn! I feel conflicted about it, though, because there are a lot of neat icons around, too. They're part of the spectacle. Hmm. At least I won't have to put up with dial-up for much longer, so the issue is skirted through the power of pretending like it isn't there! YEAH!
