And One has to Wonder...

Why I got out of trucking. Or one of the reasons why.

Which they do, and often without any real reason.
I can't count the number of times I was pulled over, just because a state cop wanted to perform a random DOT inspection on me.
Moreover, when they do do that, they can search your truck, again, without warrant or probable cause. They can deem it as part of the inspection, and go back into your personal living space and everything. That bit happened to me twice.
And one of the things I have, being a foot-fetishist, is silicone faux feet. I had two pairs of them, the last time I got inspected. When the cop saw them, he almost freaked, apparently thinking he had a serial killer who cut off people's feet on his hands. I just stood there and stared at him dryly, as he finally decided they were fake and weren't a problem.
But then, he started to laugh, as if he thought the things were ridiculous and outrageous. I just continued to stare at him deadpan, but then asked him, "Is your bodycam on?"
He blinked, looked down at it, then went a little pale.
I said, "Right. If you even think about mocking me for those, trust me, you won't be able to afford the lawsuit. Now give me back my sex toys and get on with your inspection."
He almost fumbled them handing them to me, then walked stiff-legged back to his vehicle. Ten minutes later, he came back with a "No Violations Discovered" inspection report, had me sign it, gave me a copy and then left without another single word.
The whole thing, he characterized as a "Random Inspection". He wanted to be able to go through somebody's truck, and that was all - to hassle a driver and see if he could find something wrong he could write up or even arrest someone for. A "Change-the-World, Barney Fife" type of idiot. Had the crew cut, the demeanor, everything. They're out there. And us truckers? We had absolutely not rights in that regard, at all.
I dont like the police out here much but they mostly stay out of my face and dont bother the public unless someone is acting clearly tilted. On the road however i do see convoy bois resoundingly more pulled over than your standard truck nutz compo or corvetted geezer with stock options going by going 90. and no one gets pulled over for how they drive out here it feels like. just how fast your going or.. if you look like you cant make the court date or can pay the ticket.
people also really tend to appreciate truckers in my town and i kinda do too having known a few and family who worked in it. i dont think we need to be making those guys jobs any more grindy that it already is. ticketing and how you get stopped and a whole mess of other shit needs to be fixed or just done away all together.
