Thanks. The insurance company got me a rental car, so that's good. Unfortunately the adjuster did not see my car friday, and I found out friday afternoon that the tow company that has my car is closed for the US independence day holiday for the entire week, so no action on that until july 8th when they open back up.

Holy crap, glad you're okay, there's only one winner in this situation, the insurance company! Even totalled it might be worth fixing, I've done buybacks and fixed or even bought friends buybacks and fixed a couple times, it can be a tough call. My white whale got totalled by a drunk driver while the truck was parked. took a check minus the buyout and with careful planning, got it restored for less than half, used the half rest for new tires, shocks and some other service items, the other remainder went into a CD

Looking forward to retirement in a few years, I want a vehicle big enough to tow a trailer and if needed, sleep in the back while I'm traveling the country doing the bucket list and going to all the furry cons I haven't been able to attend, so buyback if they total it doesn't really make sense. Also hear that hybrid and EV cars are more likely to get totalled due to the near impossibility of repairing the batteries.

Yeah, and that battery has lost some life. I think this one for sale is a hybrid and can tow maybe a small train.

So, everything got delayed for a week because the tow lot was closed for the entire week of the independence day holiday. Insurance totalled the car. Got the license plates, ezpass transponder, and five boxes of other personal belongings out. Got an auto loan preapproved and found a new used pickup truck. It was a navy truck tootling around sub base groton and only has 9700 miles on it. 2015 chevy colorado pickup. it's the base model, but it does have the backup camera, and the extra row of child sized seats in the cab, so a place for all my crap there. It's ready to go except for the registry is behind on issuing plates. Hopefully monday.
