I Almost Tripped Over a Skunk... Twice - 151st Journal
a year ago
This is my head.
Already in few days into July, things are already starting off strange just after that crazy June I had. I just joined the group walk challenge at work as part of our health program where we have to average at least four miles per day for thirty days. I wanted to get at least five miles. I get part of the miles at work so I do nightly walks to meet my daily goals.
So last night I walked to the local city park about two miles away and was just heading back when something dark and about the size of a cat ran right in front of me inches away. I almost tripped on the fast creature and even had to leap over it. I ended up almost falling on some construction debris near the sidewalk. It was dark with no real coverage of the streetlights there. The creature had a slim head, catlike body and a big fluffy tail. I first thought it was some sort of large squirrel or something. But anyway a resumed my walking as it was long gone.
I couldn't tell but it ran across the street. An oncoming car stopped and the driver honked the horn. The dark animal ran in front of the car to the adjacent sidewalk and then turned 90 degrees right at me. It zoomed to the right of me, coming inches away again and almost caused me to trip once more.
Someone in the car said something about a skunk and it did kinda looked like one. But I didn't really smell any of the skunk odor, just a faint hint but that could be from from all of the construction. Maybe it was too busy zig-zagging all over the place to spray, I dunno.
But anyhoot, that is my story of almost tripped on a skunk (or something like that) not once, but twice in under 30 seconds or so. Yep, July is already something. Madness.

Sounds like you had a bit of excitement there, but glad to hear everyone came out of it unscathed and with just their natural aromas.
I didn't really smell any of the skunk scent though, maybe a tiny hint but are to tell with the construction going on the area or the encounter. I walked past the spot a few more times during my treks but no sign of it. Probably ran to the next county by now how fast it zoomed by. Probably thinking "Forget this, I am out of here!" ZOOM! ZOOM! ZOOM!
