I ment that you were quite correct. The "normal" flu has killed more (or just as many) then the H1N1 did (at least around here) but the media is almost completely mute about how many people die to that.

That's mostly because people were prepared for it because... people were informed and took their loved ones to the doctor when they got sick and/or got a vaccine.

That's not really the case - the CDC's research has confirmed this strain is no more dangerous than any other seasonal strain. But since the bug happened to first pop up in a horribly underprepared area resulting in a large number of deaths in a short period of time, a large increase in precautionary activities has resulted, and the level of preparedness the initial panic caused will be more likely to result in FEWER total flu deaths this season compared to what's normal.

In short: The bug itself is no more dangerous overall than normal flu, but the increased precautionary measures have certainly not HURT anything.

The problem is that it only gives you protection from that particular strand, while catching the real deal will give you protection from that one again and at least partial protection against most, if not all, other strands in the future, PLUS if you get the protection the natural way it may be genetically transferred to your future offspring.

No. Immunity to disease is NOT passed on through heredity the way you're describing. People who already have a genetic mutation that makes them resistant/immune, sure. People who catch the disease and fight it off? No, that doesn't get to your genes.

If you didn't already know it there are two ways for a mother to pass on immunity to her child, one is through her genes, the other is through breastfeeding...

One of the reasons to why the second wave of the plague didn't hit nearly as hard as the first wave was due to genetically transferred immunity to the 'black plague'.

Yes, I'm aware of the genetic immunity issue with the Plague. Read up on Delta 32 and how it also helps immunity to HIV. And keep in mind, people who already had the Delta 32 mutation were able to survive the first wave to have kids, which meant more people with the mutation were alive when the second wave hit. It has nothing to do with "passing on immunity" from people who were actually infected but survived.

And yeah, a mother can help with immunities through breastfeeding... until the breastfeeding stops. It's using the mother's immune cells to help boost the child's immune system, not teaching the child's immune system anything. Oh, and it only works IF mom was breast-feeding the child. That's kinda out of style anymore.

Breastfeeding protects the child yes, but breastfeeding do also teach the childs immune-system at least partially of what the mothers immune-system can.

Please explain to me the genetic changes to the human body that surviving an infection causes. C'mon, you're talking about an immune response rewriting your genes. That doesn't happen. The people who had immunity already had the mutation that made them immune.

And no, it's not just "backwards countries" that have breastfeeding out of style. Many mothers in the US don't breastfeed at all, or only do it rarely. It's a matter of convenience and social taboos (ie. public feeding) that make it less popular here.

I'm no geneticist so I can't explain how it works but I do know that several medical historical evidence and medical proof has been found proving that Yes there was people with a genetic 'defect'(as geneticist thought it was at first) that protected them from the 'black plague', but those people never got sick at all, but there where people who got to stage two, the rash(or whatever the skin-changes was classified as) but slowly recovered just as people thought they had entered stage three.

Those who do not breastfeed because of 'inconvenience' or the 'taboo'-stamp are an extreme minority. In the US nurses in many hospitals tell the hesitant mothers to not breastfeed as it is bad for the baby in one way or another.
I say 'Backwards Countries' because in almost all countries where breastfeeding is "out of style" the Christian church dictates what is right rather than scientific proof.

Yes, there are people who contracted the Plague and managed to survive. There are also people who had a genetic mutation which effectively made them immune to the plague. Those are separate groups, though. The former did not have any genetic changes to pass down to their children.

It may be a difference of perspective, or location, but I know very few women who breast-fed their children (my sister being an obvious exception). So, unless you're calling the entire USA backwards...

A majority of the worlds women are/have been breastfeeding, while countries like Africa and US of A don't due to reasons like their career won't allow it or someone 'claiming' that it's not good for the baby...

oh I know how they work! you inject a weakened or killed pathogen into your body.Then with exposure to it your immune system builds defense against it .Then later if you are exposed to live pathogens ,your abilty to fight it is greatly increased so that in most cases you wont get sick. yes but just because you get a vaccine doesnt mean that you cannot effectively transfer the virus to another person.

imposible to spread,no. but you spread a virus mostly through sneezing and other outbursts which you only do if youre sick and its mutlpying in your system. a "herd immunity" is the best way to protect people from getting sick whether they are vacinated or not.disease mostly spreads through the ill.

vaccines arent 100% effective thats true. but so arent seatbelts in crashes or airbags. Vaccines do protect a lot of people and save countless lives is the bottom line .

I all ready got my regular seasonal flu shot in October. In our area there are several locations for this vaccine, but the county's limiting it to a specific age group and to those who deal with small children under the age of 6 years, are pregnant, and to those older than I.

So... I'm out of luck at present. But, I'm not concerned.

I remember when the H1N1 shots were being advertised at the hotel I worked at - everyone signed up for it (as well as the seasonal flu shot)...except me.

Seriously, I see no reason in getting these flu shots; as even though the symptoms are nowhere near as bad as getting the full on flu when you get these shots, you still get the flu in the end.

If getting the shot puts you more at ease, then that's great. :) Myself, though - I'd rather pass.

I got a shot once when I was younger... it was a new nurse and she jabbed the needle into my arm, started twisting it, pushed the plunger thingy really fast and twisted the syringe some more before taking it out ><
hehe she got fired after i stopped crying my ass off XD

My immune system is fairly well built up from working at a convenience store, so I'm not worried. :P
