Live Action VS Animation
They keep making live action versions of animated properties. And I don't know of any live action movie/show that was an improvement over the original animation. Lord of the Rings may be the only exception, but it was also never intended for animation. As opposed to something like the Lion King, which doesn't work well outside of animation.
Curious if anyone disagrees, or if you have any animated movies you think were improved by being done in live action.

There are some live action movies that got great animated spinoffs like Star Wars the clone wars or the animated series of Godzilla 98 aka "Zilla" from Roland Emmerich. Those shows gave the movie or it's universe, timeline and characters more depth and are well received from most fans.
I don't know why anyone would want live-action over animated in the first place, since animation means you have unlimited options for special effects.
So, they'll make Lion King live action. They'll make Moana live action. They'll do them all cause they can't do much else now.
1. Some people just can't get into animation or even ''stand'' to watch a few animated films so these live-action fares are meant to capture that audience (which as it seems to be panning out is small or not really there)
2. As Lu-Man said, Hollywood sees that sweet-sweet 円 and/or $ but in the absence of their own animated studio they resort to live-action while oftentimes not ''getting'' either what it's about or not caring.
3. Creative bankruptcy/risk aversion - nowadays with the amount of money dunked into an average blockbuster movie, (which is likely both bloated and subject to horrid embezzlement we will likely find about only years/decades later), one can ill-afford to be creative and risk 100, 200 or even 300 mil on a work/franchise that will go nowhere, so the studios mine for movies that were popular thinking that the sparkle will rub off of the live-action and/or that people will be hit with memberberry juice.
In the end tho, a bit of good news is that indie and foreign movie scenes are alive and well, one just needs to summon up a bit of courage and look beyond planet USA to see what's out there.
