Story of 12 character YCH and russian artist-scammer
a year ago
In 2021, I worked with a russian artist ****..( I can’t mention their username in this journal, as FurAffinity’s administration might consider it harassment.) , who eventually scammed me. I can't say for sure if the artworks she showed me were really hers, as the quality and style varied significantly during different periods of our communication, though I didn’t realize it at the time. She likely used a scheme like this: she would find two artists, A and B. She showed Artist A the works of Artist B, claiming they were hers, and did the same to Artist B, showing them the works of Artist A.
Then, she would propose a trade and a collaboration where Artist A thought they were doing a joint piece, but in reality, Artist B was doing the work at her request.
Artist A didn’t know they were being scammed and would sell the collaboration, splitting the profit with the scammer. Artist B, on the other hand, did the work on their own initiative or for a much lower fee. Neither A nor B knew about each other.
I also made a mistake during the process: I didn’t immediately send her the sketch file after selling all slots. This was due to my personal work approach, as I usually don’t need the file to start inking characters over the sketch. However, in a collaboration, it’s better to send the file directly. I corrected my mistake and sent her the file.
After receiving the file, my co-author promised to finish the linework within a month. After the month passed and the work wasn’t done, she asked for another month. During this period, she sent me some progress, but the style and quality were drastically different from her previous works. This concerned me, but I thought maybe she was just being lazy, as the skill level had noticeably dropped. I decided to finish the piece myself because I wanted to deliver a higher quality than what she was offering.
Later, in 2022, a friend of Artist B contacted me, recognizing my style in the collaboration her friend was working on. She asked me if it was really mine. I got in touch with Artist B, and she kindly provided proof that she had indeed been working on the collaboration, unaware of my involvement. Since she was a beginner, this explained why the quality didn’t match my expectations—it was Artist B drawing, not my supposed co-author. It seems the scammer specifically targeted artists with beginner or intermediate levels who were willing to do the work for very little money or for free, as they needed the practice.
I confronted my now ex-co-author on Telegram. Although I had already refused her co-authorship, I couldn’t help but ask what was going on. I admit, I was quite aggressive because such behavior is beyond the bounds of decency. She, in turn, responded with mockery and called Ukrainians (derogatory term: “khokhol”) stupid before blocking me and deleting our entire chat.
I don’t think it makes sense to track her by name, as she likely uses different nicknames and showcases other artists' works as her own. Her FurAffinity account has been banned, and I haven’t been able to find her elsewhere.
I strongly urge you to be cautious when collaborating with others. Just because someone sends you drawings and has a gallery doesn’t mean they’re not a scammer. Be careful not to fall for such schemes.
Thank you so much to the FurAffinity administration for banning this person so she can no longer deceive people by selling YCHs and collaborations through fraud.
This story has been going on for quite some time, but I didn’t have the strength to share it earlier due to my very poor mental health, which was further worsened by the war in Ukraine. Thank you to everyone who supported me in this situation, especially (Пухнастi Митцi) for listening to my story and helping me cope with my condition overall. I feel much better now, thanks to all of you.
A special thank you to my friend for agreeing to help me with this collaboration and for not letting me give up while I was going through this situation. She motivated me to sit down and finish the project through joint efforts in collaboration.
A big thank you to all the clients who commissioned this piece from me, and thank you for your patience and for always staying in touch. It means a lot to me that you all understood the situation, and I’m glad this piece has finally reached its conclusion.
I still have to work on another YCH with six characters, but its delay is entirely my responsibility. For a long time, I struggled with severe fluctuations in my mental health and productivity due to bipolar disorder. I’m now taking medication and feeling much better. I’m gradually getting back into the rhythm of life, and I’m grateful to everyone who supported me along the way.
I would like to express special gratitude to my husband, who went through all these stages with me.

I had no idea that they scammed artists too. :(
I know the other person in this case and before they were banned I commissioned them for another piece of art. They promised more stuff which was never delivered as they "outsourced" the work to another artist. I have some more details about their new accounts, some of which have already been banned.
I am sorry for what has happened, but glad that things are getting better for you.
Thanks to both you and the other artist for the work you have done!
