So, why are cages so popular all of the sudden?

Just wondering.
I know cock cages were always a thing, but rather fringe. But since about half a year to a year ago I see them everywhere. Most bondage pics with males now has them.
I'm sure I'm not the only one that noticed.
I personally don't like cages, I like penises, not hidden-away-penises. But if you like it, you do you.
I'm just wondering why they're so omnipresent all of the sudden. Was there some ultrapopular comic or meme I missed or something?

But at least that one I could kinda understand.
